Actually according to my stats, I'm a random, lol.

I've been enjoying random. It's done a much better job getting me comfortable with each race's capabilities than select race AI matches would've done.
That said, my problem has been knowing when random isn't going to help anymore, and you should play specific races to get a stronger grasp on them.

As a Random player, I just have to say that Terran can bite me. I've been going Zerg because I just can't handle Random'ing Terran.

I've enjoyed random to learn the races but there is always one race i don't like.

I random because it forces a scout just to find out what you are, and if you know what the other guy's playing you can put it off. MASSIVE MINERAL ADVANTAGE RIGHT THERE
A big middle finger to any player that asks in chat after the typical 'gl hf', "What race are you?" DURR HURR HURR
Been playing random lately just because I like the variety. Also I feel like I'm only testing 1/3 of the game if I don't :-\. Will say though that I groan a little every time I pull Protoss, just because they're my worst race by far.

Totally.
I've been hitting Random since day 1 and love where I'm at because of it. It was excruciatingly slow progress at first, but now I feel I've got much more insight into strategy & what my opponent is likely doing than I would have if I'd just picked a race to specialize.

Haha no harm in asking, sometimes they'll answer!

I'm offended that you would even ask. But this goes back to buttholes on battle.net 1, where people would hold a conversation like they were a noob, when in fact they were hotkeying a 40 unit army in the first 6 minutes

If someone's getting chatty to slow down a less experienced player, that's pretty cheap. I do make an effort to be friendly and polite, though.

Yeah, I'll chat a bit during the first minute or so, but after that I'll be quiet unless the game's pretty much decided. If someone's really struggling and there's no question of a win, I'll usually reach out, just because battle.net 2.0 is a pretty solitary experience and people sometimes appreciate some ideas or encouragement.

LOL! I actually said that once. But he didn't tell me. It was worth a try. :(
BEST THREAD EVER!
I Am Random all the time. I gotta feel the vibe and see what I like. At first I liked Terran, cause they PEW PEW LOLWUT. thought Protoss is chill. Zerg so hard to use. After awhile it changed. Zerg is so easy. Just mass roach rush and win. Back to the point. Random is a great way to find your taste. That's if you don't care about records. I honestly don't care about records in beta. You shouldn't either.

I've thought about doing this so many times just to see if someone would tell me. It doesn't hurt to ask, and the potential payoff is worth it.

Yeah, I love going random. Makes your opponent go insane wondering what race you are..

I play Random (aka protoss)...
I always end up toss... maybe its not so random after all...
You need to master every race to be a good player...
You cant just rush hydra anymore, SC2 is a game of counter.
PS: bring back hydra to tier1.
I'm a random player. I think I have hit my limit of competency doing it though. Pretty sure I am going to need to settle into a single race if I want to be able to win consistently. Bums me out.

Random is wonderful. once you get the hang of how to play each race, you get a bit of an advantage by knowing the mechanics of everything that can be thrown against you.

Try sticking with one race for a bunch of games in a row, just to up your familiarity. I do that occasionally when I'm working on my build order for a new strategy.
I'd love to be able to consistently win at higher levels just picking Random, but I'm not sure if random all the way or learning one well, then another is the way to go.

It's my first day and time actually playing against other players. The previous day was spent configuring my settings and testing how it performs while playing a Very Easy computer. Anyway, I am really enjoying random, I haven't gotten enough matches in - only three but I always went random in the first StarCraft game because I was very skilled with all races and it kept the game interesting instead of becoming stale once you specialize in a race and win most of the time.
Anyhow, my first random match was terran and that was the race that I was NOT most comfortable and familiar with but unfortunately my teammate went down right away in a 2v2 game (he was zerg and had a Z and P players rush him) so I tried to defend myself and my teammate at my expansion by building bunkers and that didn't go very well haha.
Second game I was protoss and that was the race that I was MOST comfortable and familiar with in a FFA match with three other protoss opponents. I did pretty well with them but had quite a difficult time adjusting to SC2 since I'm so used to the SC1 interface and macro. I dropped a phase prism behind a player's main mineral field and immediately decimated him with warp gate dark templars. Unfortunately once I was left with a single protoss player, he immediately owned me with mass void rays, phoenixes, carriers, and a mothership while I had no sufficient counter to anti-air at that time. It was a fun experience though! =)
I'm definetely going to stick with random until I get the basic idea of each race then perhaps pick one to specialize in for a while to advance to better leagues.
edit - forgot to add carriers.
Currently rank 4th in Platinum as random, random ftw. It's funny though because I have only ever seen about 3 other random players at my level, makes me sad.

Been Random since Game 1 unless my AT allies requested a particular combination. That's just how I like it, and doing fine so far. ★

I also play random.
It's a good way to know all the units and their counters.

Random for life!
It's been treating me really well :)
Glad to see this topic doing so well. Nice to hear from the plat Random player.
I'm doing pretty decent as random. However, needing to learn 3 races worth of counters to one strat can be hard.

I have been loving playing random. I find the learning curve much higher as you have to learn 9 different matchups instead of 3...
Personally I feel that I am much weaker with Terran than with Zerg and Protoss so this has been difficult for me to deal with.

I'm not a random player, and while I admire the ability to play all the races, I also tend to feel relief when I see a random. I usually win those (can't say the same for the non-randoms).
I play only random.
It's funny listening to people whine when you point out the OP units of each race, they get so attached to THEIR race.
man up and play random.

Just piping in to say I'm random FOR LIFE and anyone who isn't is a scrub in my eyes! If you can only play one race that's embrassing...

The lack of confidence oozing off the last two posters really speaks volumes for random players.

I just started, so I'm going to choose a race until I'm confident in them, then move on to the others.
Trying to learn races by jumping from one to the next is a bad idea. It's better to learn from dumb mistakes and keep building on your play, until you can use them effectively.

I need to start saying Hi at the beginning of a game, but I don't even think about it most of the time. I don't mean to be rude or anything. I do start talking later though. Mostly to laugh at whatever's going on. The most recent example was when me and another player were in a race to destroy each other's bases that we'd left practically undefended.
I've been Terran almost exclusively, and Zerg a little. I'll have to try out Protoss eventually but the few times I've played Random I ended up as one of those two. The stuff I've heard about Protoss makes it sound like they're too hard for me though. I imagine I'll only play them so I know how to and what to expect. I do play as random when I don't care, but I haven't done that much for SC2 yet.
I've always played Random in SC1because I enjoy being well rounded. Ever since the Beta started (I got my Beta key a day ago) I've been watching livestreams and have gotten an Idea of each Race. Reading posts here and watching streams has shown that the races are still pretty similar to SC1 so the learning curve for each race has been really small. I've been choosing Random since my first match and it'll continue up until my last!
I strongly disagree with those who say you need to specialize in a specific race to be competitive. I've *just* finished my placement matches and I'm still learning what's what plus shaking off some rust from not having played SC1 recently. With that I've been placed in the Gold League right now and once I get used to all the new starting strats/rushes and shake off the rust I *think* I'll be a platinum player. Then I'll have to familiarize myself with the mid game because it's pretty unknown to me right now. At any rate I'll be doing it all as Random and there's no way it'll be a disadvantage plus I think it'll make me a better player.
As for all the races I love em all and am equally strong with all races so I have no reason not to Random!
Also a question for all you Randomers out there. Does it actually seem random? I was going to actually post about a bug with it as I got Zerg for me first 6-8 games I ever played. I decided I'd play one more and if I got zerg again I'd post on the forums. Figures that game I got toss :p Last night I was seeming getting Terran all the time but in between those two streaks random seemed pretty ranadom!
