It's designed to help them make more money, not give you the best experience possible. Take a look at facebook, steam and Xbox live.

Click on your Profile button, click the match that you played with the player you wish to add as a friend, then right click their name 'Add Friend'.
I don't know why this is so hard for some people, it's three steps.

It truly is bad. I want to understand where they are trying to go with this thing, but it's horrible to use

You didn't QQ enough in any of the other threads, did you?
<pre> You can add anyone by right-clicking on their name in the Tally screen for any game from your recent match history. Most of the pages of Player Profiles and the Social tab HAVE NOT BEEN IMPLEMENTED YET. l2look</pre>
Honestly. Find something new to whine about.
Because the full utility of the service is already in effect.

It is rather lacking in user friendliness. But when u get used to it its not too bad. Theres a couple ways to add friends. The easiest was already mentioned, and thats to go to YOUR profile, then click the game you played with him around the center of ur screen. Near the top ull see his name, and you can click on that and it will have an option to add friend. Dont remember if its right or left click.
I dont think theres any way to talk to the person without adding a friend though. which i think is very bad design. I dont think they are planning on doing that either... Would interfere too much with their friend system.

I'm gonna buy me some cheese and wine for when the game goes retail and battle.net 2.0 is still not fully activated yet.
I'm going to sit down on the retail SCII forums and laugh my arse off at the EPIC QQ OF 2010 that is bound to take place.
I would also like to point out that:
Has anyone stopped to think that Blizzard DOES NOT want you to spend your days talking to people during the beta testing?

The thing is that you have to add the peerson as a friend first in order for you to message them. This IMO is quite dumb. Just bring back chat channels and don't try to turn batlle.net into freaking steam or xboxlive, jeez

Current battle.net 2.0 is terrible.
Click on your Profile button, click the match that you played with the player you wish to add as a friend, then right click their name 'Add Friend'.
I don't know why this is so hard for some people, it's three steps.
/f add <playername> was far more simple.
Also can't whisper somebody without friending them first, and defriending them later.
Also have to use a silly instant messenger tab every time I want to read a single-word whisper from a friend. Friend whispers: Grats, I whisper: Did you really just make me find your IM tab to read that? Both of us: thanks for the bad interface, blizzard.
You didn't QQ enough in any of the other threads, did you?

Interviews / blizzard responses suggest that our problems will not be fixed in any manner come retail or in beta.
It is our job as a beta tester to convey the will of the community to blizzard. If they want to listen to us, they're free to do so in order to improve their game. If they don't want to listen to us, they'll deal with a very, very angry fanbase later and all the associated consequences.
It is our job as a beta tester to convey the will of the community to blizzard.
And it's Blizzard's job to sort through the vast desert of pointless complaints and off-the-wall suggestions to find the 1% of suggestions that actually make sense.

I think the new battle net in its current state is a bit barren. But here's a thought, Why don't we wait until everything is enabled and actually know what the hell we are talking about before we start 200 threads on this?

I very seriously doubt that. if they want to have it ready for cata and sc2 retail, it had better be damn close to done. people need to stop apologizing for blizzards short comings by saying 'it's not done, it will be different in retail, etc' this is the time to complain about things which you don't feel are upto par. that's the point of public beta testing. if they don 't change it now, they probably won't until expansion time rolls around.

Blue has said that most all of the Bnet features are disabled for beta because they want us focusing on the game balance, not beta. But yeah currently you have to friend someone before you can whisper them. I'm sure chat channels and whispers will be in the final product.

And how will they work wiht this ludacrous and unnecesary 2 part name system?

If a person from a foreign land came to this country and told you that having a first and last name was stupid what would you say to him?

Clearly, the minority - who believes the job of a beta tester is to praise a product for being 100% perfect simply because they've been caught up in 12 years' worth of hype over said product - have a more valid opinion than the large majority who are posting against b.net 2.0's current sad state of affairs.
And at the "It's beta, it's not final" crew: please read blizzard interviews and blizzard responses on battle.net 2.0. Open chat channels are NOT coming. A lot of the heavily-requested features are 100% confirmed not coming. That is why so many people are complaining.

Bad analogy. I can address someone by using one name or both names. I can't address anyone on battle.net, period, unless I add them to my friends list.

Once you know them, or are in the same room as them yes you can.
But if you met a nice stranger on the subway and tried to look them up in the phone book later you would need both their first and last names to be able to find them again.

I do like the new look, matchmaking system, and general ease of use so far. However, there is no denying the reduced functionality. Hopefully the full Bnet will allow such basic things like looking up people in ladders and adding friends outside of past played games.
But feel this battlefacebook is going to be a kick in the balls for not only the SC community, but for anything else that isnt part of their ladder system, including custom games, clans, open chat channels and moderation tools that shaped the original Bnet community.

Seriously. I don't want your crap that doesn't work. Just give me a place to talk to people, or just remove social features altogether.
The first and last name thing is a retarded analogy.
THIS IS A VIDEO GAME. I DONT WANT TO LOOK IN A PHONE BOOK TO TALK TO SOMEONE. I CAN DO THAT REAL LIFE.

People can think that the game is fine and most of the complaints are pointless without thinking that the only thing you can do in beta is praise the game. People do have different opinions on what is and is not important.
Battle.Net 2.0 is, IMO, perfectly fine for what it is right now. Could there be some improvements? Sure, but it's not bad like you seem to proclaim as loudly as often as possible.
As for open chat channels, there are a number of people who want them, and a number of people who don't care. The question for Blizzard is the extra money to implement and maintain said channels more important than getting their other features done and online to allow you to have channels to talk in at all as well as are there enough people who actually want the feature to make it worth while.

I'm just going by what we know.
We know that their is an incredibly convoluted and utterly pointless system for simply whispering to someone "nice game". We also know that chat channels are not making a return.
What function does duel names server? They barely even protect privacy because when we post on forums, it displaces the second name.

I know, and it would be nice if they gave more information on what they are planning to do with the disable social features.
As for the chat channels, you know that open chat channels are not making a return. There will probably still be chat channels, just different from Battle.Net 1.0.

Basically make is so that two people can have the same display name (the first part) while still be unique because of the second part.

It's not difficult, we just shouldn't have to do it. Before, I could just go into a lobby, type /w Insane.elite GG buddy, wanna do some practice 1v1s?
Now I have to go through the steps you outlined, then send you a message. If I want to check someone's stats after a match, I have to do the same thing and then remove them from my list afterwards to avoid cluttering it.
Bad design is bad, no matter how much you suck up to the designer.

It was confirmed in a Korean interview that Battlefacebook 2.0 will not have chat channels at all. This must change.

Except SC2 is pretty much ready for release aside from some minor balance issues. It's BNet itself that seems to have most of the testing/datamining going on.

b.net is actualy really simple, but nobody understands that in this beta, not everything is active yet, not all feature or abilities and the like.... this is more or less testing part b.net and multiplayer 1v1 and 2v2 melee. 3v3 and 4v4 arnt even in yet nor are so many other feature....
b.net isnt ba, its just not complete to use yet, hence the beta.

They are currently getting information on the multiplayer balance. There is probably some information gather that specifically has to do with Battle.Net, but that's not the purpose of the beta.
