View Full Version : Hows the attitude of players been for you?

I was enjoying my first matches being paired with other beginners. Sometimes we did really well, sometimes we lost miserably. In all the matches though everyone seemed to be relaxed and enjoying themselves even after losing.

However once I started the ranked matched in the upper Silver bracket I've had to deal with some really poor attitudes. I'm not fantastic, I think I'm probably middle-tier material. Its frustrating being paired with some ultra hardcore guy who starts freaking out if you don't have a massive army five minutes into the game (by that time I've got maybe a dozen marines and some reapers maybe?). They'll freak out and start using slurs and calling your "garbage".

Anyhow, how has it been for you guys? Minus this incident things have been pretty chill.

Most people are pretty good sports, all except the early game rushers who pump out units as fast as possible and pretty much end the game in 5 minutes. Thats kind of an off-putting move of someone to do IMO. I mean if everyone did that, my beta experience would entirely consist of tier 1 units since defending against early rushes is pointless.

The very first guy played whined like you wouldn't believe when I beat him. The game lasted twenty minutes and all he had was one base and some lings before I actually got around to attacking and he was upset with me over it.

Other than that, most people have been pretty good sports.

I've only had one or two jerks in about 100 games.

Only played about 20 games in the ladder (silver). I'm 32th right now, was 5th yesterday, was even first at some point *I didn,t play much since that point hehe*. And I didn't see much bad people. Actually, most people I saw were pretty friendly. Some didn't say a word at all, and actually had friendly conversations with a few people once it was GG. I'm pretty impressed actually. Only had one person keyboard smash on me after losing, and he might have had his reasons hehe. I was actually a bit scared to play at first since I get really frustrated when people go "lol noob, you suck" and etc.

So yeah, maybe I was lucky, but I like it for now ^^.

I do admit that I seem to be the only one saying "GL HF" at the beginning of a game :P.

I get a lot of pissed off players...maybe my name indicates I won't understand english.

So far good, all of them have been really quiet players, except one, who was polite.

I always glhf at the begining, and most of the time i get: glhf, thx u 2, thx gl.
Or i get nothing back. Ive only come across 1 semi pissed off player, in my last game actually. he complained at the end about zerg being unbalanced because my army of 23 lings and 33 hyrdas with t1 upgrades beat hi 2 colossi, 14 stalkers, 6 sentries, and 6 zeaots; w/ similar upgrades. 56 vs 28, thats a players mistake, not the games. I know these #'s cause i watched the replay.

Still pretty pg compared to what ive seen on some live streams. And in another game i got "GG :D" by the other player and he then lagged out (disscounted, or whatever) forcing me to wait 60 secs ftw. Other than that, nothing but nice people without a neg thing to say.

I've not had ragers but i've had the silent refuse to speak to you types. Which is fine for 1v1 but I really like 2v2... god nothing worse than a partner that just wont speak... wont respond to tactic talk and generally plays a solo game when your suppose to be teams.

i havnt met anyone overly @%*%#y, if someone was pissed that I beat them, they didnt show it, then again 1 v 1 i dont win much, in 2 v 2's though, i win alot more when my partner isnt crashing at the begining of the game.

I had one *!!!@*! who after it was clear I had won the game he proceeded to say "you aren't very good"

Other than that, it's been a lot of "gl hf" and "gg"s at the end.

Everyone's been incredibly polite. Played a 2v2 with a RL friend on my side who's a much higher rank than me, and he was accused of exploiting and hax when we destroyed the other dudes with a combination of rushed Immortals and Roaches/Nydus Worm, but I thought that was more of a lulz (and maybe a compliment for my friend?).

The early game rushers aren't bad sports. You might be, though, if you are really complaining about someone using a legitimate strategy to beat you.

Normally I say "hi" at the start. They say hi or gl hf etc... then I mention how I suck and I'm on a huge losing streak and hopefully they'll end it. Then at the end if it was a close game I say GG. If anything worthy of talking comes along I'd talk. If it was a lopsided game I won't say anything.

One guy however never talked the entire game. When I won he says "NERD".

I had a guy snap like a little kid in 4 player ffa after i killed him and the other 2 guys before any of them attacked eachother, and tell me how he was really the winner. But what makes me smile is how the replay immortalizes his freakout. :D

First guy I played against (only been doing 1v1 so far) was pretty cool. We chatted up the beta and had a pretty casual game. Second guy I played against was dead silent the entire game until I found his last base. The only thing said the entire game was "gg".

I'd be shocked about the second one if I wasn't so used to WoW's LFD tool ;)

i've only played about 3 games and so far ppl have been pretty nice. everyone says the usual "hallo i r new" and i just say "np, aren't we all at this point"?

Haven't had any problems, has mostly been good. Only complaint I could have is playing 2vs2 when one of the opponents was constantly asking for us to say GG and throw in the towl. After any fight he'd always send out a "GG now?" "GG?" Eventually they won but it went on for some time and we took out his partner before the end.

Amazing so far, literally only had one player I didn't get along with. He went on a cuss-filled rampage about how "Siege Tanks are no fair", keep in mind this was TvT.

I'm fairly crap, but I came across a guy who had had 5 bad starter games and so he was still totally fresh, and for lack of better words, I destroyed him. All through out the process, he was talking to me, saying "Oh cool" and "whoa" and he was having fun being beaten. He was learning.

I wish I could be more like him; in a week he'll kick my ass =p

He was good people.

This.

I was beating this guy in a PvP and he said

"Meh, I don't feel like playing anymore. You're a new wave, right?"
"No"
"Oh, well you sure play like one. Gg"
"..gg"

A ramp is a choke. You mean blocked his choke? Sorry, choking someones ramp sounded kind of funny. ; )

Community has been pretty good, so far. I've had some good convos with folks. I should really add those people to my friends list, but I always forget.

No real negative interactions, yet. The worst I have encountered is just the silent opponents.

Positive and pleasant, so far.

The exceptions are to be expected really, and I was getting kind of uncomfortable until running into one of those morons. Make you feel at home, considering this's StarCraft/Blizzard.

I try to look at it this way:

If the other person is raging at me it means I must be doing something right to piss him off.

Most people do not get mad when they are winning.

Haven't met a rager yet, although its only been 22 games.

Dreuel

Only rager I've met was one guy, first day or so, who scouted my base with an SCV. In the vein of wanting to see what would happen, I sent ALL of my SCVs chasing his all the way back to his base. The guy proceeded to beat me and called me "garbage" among some other insults, lol.

Edit: Yeah, I knew it was a stupid thing to do when I did it, but name-calling is a little strong a reaction, haha.

Edit 2: The people who really piss me off are the ones who beat me and say "gg" first, lol. Makes me want to fly a building into the corner of the map, but usually I'll just clam up and force them to destroy everything rather than leaving.

I played a game against a protoss a while back and swarmed him with 1/1/speed upgraded zerglings. He had a pretty even composition of zealots/stalkers/sentries/immortals, but the sheer numbers of my zerglings devoured them all and continued straight to his undefended base. He said sarcastically, "wow, that's skill."

.. well, it beat you, didn't it?

either than that, all around pretty good.

That used to make me mad as well, but I learned that there is actually a subsection of battle.net that was taught that way.

I have a friend that says "GG" right at the start of the game and also when he's about to win a game. He actually gets mad when someone who is beating him does not say GG first.

To him it's like a pride thing. We would rather be told that he's losing rather than admit it himself.

This may be a little off topic, but I am a nice guy. I'll chat with you and help you with your game if you have any questions, but if you can't get past my early game you don't deserve to see my late game. There is nothing wrong with rushing. If Blizzard didn't intend on their being rushing in the game every map would be like the "novice" maps.

On Topic

I have had mixed results. Every person I have bested generally has been very nice. I normally offer to help them in a few custom matches if they say something like "roaches are so OP" or something similar.

Players that have beaten me generally are not as kind. At times I can't even strike up a conversation with them, and when I do it is something like this:

Me: "Man that is a hard combo to beat"
Them: "Learn to play noob!"
Me: ....

Other situations where I'll be made fun of / trashed talked for an entire game (generally I ignore these types of comments), but then when I say "gg" my opponent suddenly forgets how to type.

I mean hell, I have been pared up with the same opponent three games in a row, and the gent never said more than "oh hi" to my "wow this is hilarious 2 and 3 games in a row?!!?"

I don't know if it me or what, but "almost" every opponent I have come across that is also in Platinum League hasn't been very friendly (plat 1v1 and 2v2). I am not sure if it is the "competitive" attitude getting the best of them or what.

My attitude towards anyone is that this is a beta. We are all teammates in figuring out how to better this / balance this game.

I haven't played many matches, but for the most part there's been very little communication at all. We just kinda play our game and move on. Though it is kinda hard to chat when I'm trying to play ;)

Most people say gg and gl and such though, which is nice. I had one guy talk about his ointment for his rash, but I'm pretty sure he was just being an ass 'cause he then proceeded to slaughter me horribly haha.

Just got into the beta this weekend. Everyone I've played so far is either quiet or very polite. Several mentioned how excited they were to get into the beta so I'm sure I got in with the current wave of invites.

The majority of my games are a pleasant experience. I'm only commenting because I have a suggestion below.

1v1s usually result in silent games but I get the occasional "GL HF", "hi", "how do you like the game so far?" to start. However, once the game is winding down and a winner begins to emerge I'll find a ranger whether I'm winning or losing.

If I face defeat, I'll hear comments like, "SC2 is not for you", "Learn to play", or "Thanks for wasting my time". If I emerge the victor, I'll hear comments like, "Unit -X- is OP and you're exploiting it", or "All you (insert race here) do the same damn thing."

In 2v2, allies have been very pleasant. Very seldom I'll have an opponent or team repeat the comments you read above.

My suggestion to Blizzard - Implement a rating feature so that you could flag a comment that someone made to you that was offensive. Once this is verified, this will mark this user as a rager for a temporary period (5 days?) that pits them against other ragers (a rager division or two, perhaps). This will separate the ragers from the majority of pleasant players I've played with so far.

StarCraft and other Blizzard games are a stress relief for me and I shouldn't have to put up with nerd ragers when I'm just wanting to have fun regardless of my win/loss ratio. And no, I'm not a terrible player. Somewhere in the med-high I'd guess. Ranked 1v1 Bronze 2 and 2v2 Silver 3. Hoping to get an advancement to Silver and Gold this week, respectively.
