I was trying to figure out whether or not I like these two part names. What does the community think about it?

I personally dont like it, although we havnt seen much if its utility. i just put my identifier tag as "starcraft2" assuming my name "cheesybacon" can be distinguished in starcraft, starcraft 2, warcraft 3 and world of warcraft so my friends know where im at. but we will see where it goes :)

Yea I hear ya. I just added ballin to mine becuase I didn't waste too much on a name. I was in a rush to get on and play this baby.

It should allow for more "names" instead of the random gibberish.

I think it's rather neat, since it lets people use the same (probably common) names.

I'm not in a clan or part of a site or anything, so I didn't have anything to claim. I figured I'd just point out that I came from the internet.

I'm against it.

1. 12 letter cap. I can't use my Wc3 name.
2. Its hard to think of a good identifier.
3. Identifiers can't have caps.
4. Blizz wants you to have a 'realistic' name, so they blocked alot of titles.
5. Blizz wants you to have a 'realistic' name.
6. Willing to bet money there will be clans that demand everyone has the same identifier/first name. Far more so than Wc3.
7. People in this thread: .starcraft .ballin .repeating first name .lolwut

I was also going to mention that the new naming system clears away alot of annoying names, but I can't ignore #7.

1. Good point, bad example.
2. Anything that uses a naming convention has this problem.
3. So?
4. I'm not sure what names are blocked so I can't comment.
5. This is only bad because they're censoring names because of it.
6. Probably.
7. Annoying names in every game with naming conventions.

My only real complaint is that it shows your identifier on the forums. I love how people can only add me to friends if I choose to give my identifier out... In WC3, hosting was a pain because everybody added you and whispered you 24/7.

I agree with most... I find it contrived and irritating. I haven't seen any benefit to it at all yet. It's also very puzzling and the "rules" to naming are completely obscure -- basically the input is a horrible user experience.

There will also be issues with 'faking' other peoples' names for which I cannot see a good reason.

It may look a little funny, but I like the idea since you think of a really good name and aren't stuck with "That name is already taken", making you either come up with a variation of that name or use special characters to make it work.

Saber

I like em, I've always used Saber Avalon as my game character names for various things. so it fits, I wish I could make the first letter a capital though, instead of forced to a lower case a.

If you know what you are doing before you decide on the names it's not so bad. I would be a sad panda if I hadn't.

in my defence cheesybacon is an amazing call sign, although i do agree .starcraft is kinda lame.. i just had to pick somthing.. and i was in such a rush to play a game haha

i find it irritating that i didn't know what it was going to do when i made it. if i knew then what i know now, not as irritating, but still wtf. it seems unnecessary, and as someone said earlier, contrived. like i have to fit some kind of model. bleh

Tiamazzo

Had I known my name would have shown up as tiamazzo.tiamazzo on the forums, I probably would have used something less repetitive. Other then that, no complaints.

Executor

I made use of it, although ingame my name is Executor but actually kinda like it, it's growing on me.

This but the opposite. I had no idea what I was getting into, so I threw out something random. Looks ok on the forums, but I'm not happy in-game.

I can't think that this is going to be the final implementation when the game actually goes live, but if it is, they need to be very clear about what affects the naming scheme has and/or allow for multiple characters or name changes.

I like it, I usually wouldn't bother with a space or a . between my handle, I think it looks pretty cool. Valid points have been made, all the people who screwed up their last name, bad luck ;/.

Jdog

I dislike how they don't allow numbers. My handle for practically everything has a number right in the middle of it and so I couldn't use it for either part.

It makes it nearly impossible to add someone's name as a friend. Also at the end of the game you can't stay in the game and continue typing to talk to each other, so its very hard to get the other user's information.

Ultramega

I honestly don't like the system. There needs to be an easy way to view players full names, so they can be added as friends quickly. That's why I just used the same name for both my usename and identifier.

That is my thoughts currently. It is hard enough to add friends, but when you only know .5 of their name it is even harder.

Don't like it due to the restrictions. Character names aren't even unique, yet they don't allow spaces. Identifiers are unique, yet you're forced to use three characters or more.

i like it actually, i got the name that i wanted and my ID is just my AIM SN and facebook account so friends know its me and have an easier time finding me, so yeah, like :)

NCsoft did a similar thing with Champions Online. Your forum avatar was yourcharacter@youraccountname. It helped to some degree to cut down on forum trolls, because you could never (unless you had multiple accounts) get away from your account name. It also let you know in game/guild who's alt was whose without having to bug officers to update such lists and all of this was done within your friend list.

I almost wish Blizzard would implement this rather than choose two screen names. Once all of Blizzard's games and forums are integrated through battle.net it would be nice to see that I can log into the WoW forums as mytoon.kidsmoke or into SC2 forums as myavatar.kidsmoke etc or have these sort of things shared between battle.net friends.

There are obvious privacy issues to keep in mind with such a system, but I think overall it could be quite nice. And killing level 1 forum trolls overnight would be incredible.

Anonymity can be a great thing, but having some accountability within various online communities can also be a great thing.

hate the 2 part names :(

I would've come up with something more clever had I known the identifier would be so visible, but I just typed my handle over again since it was the first thing that came to mind and I was in a rush to get playing :P

The two part names are just dandy! ;)

I think it makes it harder to friend people. Not sure if that's by design or not. If you don't know someones identifier, is there currently anyway to get it besides asking them in game? For example, if you want to friend someone you played in a matched game afterward. Having the identifier shown on the post-game screens and/or in replays would eliminate that. Or just the ability to friend people directly from the post-game screen.

From what I've seen it seems common to just repeat the same 1st name, which is just redundant....

It does make it a lot easier for clans to have a common naming setup though. That's probably the purpose of it if I had to guess.

So now that I know how this name works I would like to change it haha. I don't believe at this point in time that there is any way to change it, so I guess im just sol for the time being
