View Full Version : A social FLAW about Bnet

Hello, I just played a 2v2 placement match with some guy named "Dieuner". The problem is, he asked me for help to improve his game, since I pretty much won the 2v2 alone. I wish to help the guy out, but sadly, when I came to add him as a friend, I couldn't. At least not easily. I thought I could just type his nickname and voila but NO, it ask for the Dieuner.*enter something here*. Now I can't contact him at all.

Is there a way to know his "domain name"? Or did I totally lost contact with the guy? If so, you should look at this blizz. Maybe not have domain when chatting, but should I want to add as friend, I SHOULD be able to look him up.

Just one of many social flaws, IMO.

No public chat.
Hard to add friends.
No way to look at the profiles of the guy who either carried you or curbstomped you.

For being an online game that you play with other people, they sure are making it hard to play with other people.

Don't get me wrong, I think the gameplay is great for the most part. The social aspect of the game just falls completely flat.

Kalarm:

If he's still on your "Recent Games" list, you can click on the game to go to the score page, then right-click on his name and choose "add friend."

If you go to your profile, then click the game you played against him in your recently played games area, then you should be brought back to the post game score screen. Here you can right click his name and select "Add friend."

If you haven't played to many games yet, you can go to your profile, click on the match in question, and then right click his name which will show "Add Friend." Of course this requires that the match results screen actually shows him, and half the time it doesn't show my ally...

Other than that, I totally agree. Finding people is hard to impossible and should be a lot easier given the new and supposedly better social Battle.net. This should become at least slightly better when we get full match histories under your profile.

kalarm

I looked into what you people say. The problem? THERE IS A BUG! I click on the match on somehow only see 2 players. Me and... one of the enemy.

No way to look at the profiles of the guy who either carried you or curbstomped you.

You can, you just need to add them as a friend first. After you do that, you can right-click them in your friends list to view their profile. This is needlessly tedious, though.

It's beta.

That is why I report it.

Anyone know if it is a common issue that 2v2 only show the stats of yourself and another person and not all 4 players?

After the games end on the score recap screen you can right click on anyones name and add them to your friends list.

When i was first reading these forums before i had beta, i though the lack of public chant/channels sounded meh to me, but now having played it a little, i kind of wish it was there, the system just feels completely empty without it.

To the OP, i remember reading some1 said something about looking up the replay and you can find out the players name.uniqueID there, which isn't ideal i know.

After the games end on the score recap screen you can right click on anyones name and add them to your friends list.

EDIT: my suggestion is already there, perhaps should be made more obvious though, perhaps a button rather than on the right click menu.

Yes I know that now. The problem I have right now is that if I relook at the recap, I see myself and someone else who is not my ally.

I'm going to wait for the social features to be enabled before I say BNet is flawed for not having them in the SC2 beta.

All I have to say about battle.net 2.0 compared to battle.net 1.0.

The best part is that once your friends list is full, you can't talk to anyone else on battle.net at all because whispering was more or less removed.

Yeah, I gotta tell you... the single player campaign had better be incredible because that's what it's going to take to sell me on this game at this point because multiplayer sure isn't doing it for me.

I don't know why they decided to reinvent the wheel with Battle.Net, but they missed the mark badly.

The great thing about Battle.Net 1.0 was its ease of use and ease of communication.

And personally, I'd just like to be able to find out if I got my ass kicked by a platinum league player or if I just flat out stunk it up. I could do this (in a way) on Battle.net 1.0.

It's almost like Blizzard looked at all the things that made 1.0 great and decided to scrap them entirely.

True, but I'm assuming that there will be more built around the friends list that requires the disabled social features. So I'm still going to reserve judgment until either they are announced or enabled.

I totally agree. Adding friends should be a lot easier. And there DEFINITEly should be public chat. Makes the game a lot more social.

But I'm sure that they will have that when the game is released; public chat and clan options etc. will sure to be in there. This is beta..

You would like to think so.

Q : Is there plans to release public chat channels? Also, if you do release it, how will you fight against spams and profanity?
A : Battle.net 2.0 will not support open chat channels. We will take actions to the reported spams, profanity and rude behaviors with the new Report Player functionality.

It's beta bro, relax. There's still alot of work to come on the game.

Battle.net just like starcraft still has bugs and functionality errors that need to be fixed, give it time. Starcraft 2 is a great game and extremely playable EVEN in the Beta.

I agree with the social flaw. i know it's beta and there are many things to come and be fixed.. but honestly i love the new friend system but miss being able to chat with public or doing a quick /whisper <name>. i feel like socially the game is lacking. i also find it annoying then when i join a custom game as soon as i load it up it basically starts and i can't exit out or cancel or do anything really. The reason i say that is i accidentally click on a game that i didn't want and the host started it so fast i couldn't leave or stop it so i had to leave in the middle of his game because it wasn't the game that i wanted.

It took me three days to add a friend on B-net. Shit this is going to be so fucked up once my braindead irl friends come blundering in here in retail.

You can't rely on having lacking features arrive because it's beta. If there's a flaw, mention the flaw. If a lot of people agree, then it may be a smart thing to have in the game. Don't say "oh, the feature will probably be available when the game releases" while you sit and play silently.

There's a reason we're given the privilege to provide feedback. If we were meant to stand by and let things go the way it goes, why is there a public beta? Why not just let Blizzard develop it and have them release the game directly if our feedback is invaluable?

I agree Blizzard provides very quality games, beyond most game developers (if not all) and I believe this game is quality and will be successful. But that does not mean it's anywhere near perfect and that does not mean there is no room for feedback and improvement, and that does not mean that we should not mention what we think is wrong with the game simply because it's beta. In fact, the fact that it is beta is more reason to voice our opinions because after the game is released it will probably be a lot harder for them to make larger changes to the game and for them to hear opinions.

One simple example is in the Wrath of the Lich King beta. Since it started, people wanted Crusader Strike to be more interesting. People kept responding "it's beta, they're gonna add something sometime". To this day Crusader Strike is still a pretty boring ability, regardless of how much it increases your overall damage output. May take them another expansion to change that.

They had six year's worth of development or however long SC2 was behind doors to add said features. You can say "It's beta!" all you want, but the fact is that blizzard has gotten next to nothing done in the last four patches (go play a WoW beta and say that they have made good progress in three weeks)... they have not responded to our feedback in any way, and still have many, many, many features to cram into this rush-this-out-the-door three month beta if they don't want to greet an angry fanbase come release.

But the social tab, you say! Guess what, if I can't ever talk to friends via a chat-based UI, send them whispers via chat, or do anything like this without the use of the social tab, than it's already a failure. Sorry, you're not going to convince me or the thousands of players who share my opinions on this issue otherwise. This is battle.net, not facebook, and relegating any sort of simple, user-friendly chat to a single social tab (which isn't accessible when playing games or during many other times) is going to be terrible for the game's potential.

By the way, the "It's beta, everything will magically fix itself upon release!" line was used for very highly-anticipated games like Hellgate: London, designed by former Blizzard North developers. Guess what happened to that game on release? Nothing was fixed, and it failed miserably.

What does it mean when every game I play makes me want to play less?

Maybe it means that Blizzard saved me $150 by giving me a beta invite. The more I try to use Battle.net, the more I hate it.

What do the numbers mean on my score? Where's the breakdown we got in SC1? Why is everything social about an online game a complete pain in the ass? Why can't I see what kind of players I'm going up against after the fact? Just little things like the player's record in that bracket and what league/division that player is in. These could easily fit around the player names in the scoring section.

The more I try to improve, the worse I do because I get frustrated as hell. Why do I get frustrated? Because I keep getting blown away by players who, for all I know, have already played 200 games when I've only played 20. But I don't know how experienced the players I compete against are because the game has no way of telling me.

At this point, the game just doesn't convey enough info to the player and it doesn't give any real way to find out. I know almost nothing about the players I play with or against. I have no way to ask questions outside of the forum (and if there's anything I learned from the WoW forums, it's that forums are NOT for asking questions) or the game I'm getting stomped in.

The only thing I know is I'm getting stomped and I can't even find out why.

The "score" information really means nothing. Why you lost is done by yourself by watching your replays and analyzing where you went wrong and where the other guy got ahead. If you're looking for strategy discussion, a good place to start out is www.teamliquid.net. Starcraft has never been a spoonfed game. You're going to have to do some work to stop getting curbstomped. I do agree the social aspect needs to be worked on. There's not very good systems in place to make new friends on b.net, where that was really fun and easy to do before on b.net 1.0

I've been watching the replays. It just seems like every adjustment I make is making things worse. I'm not expecting to be spoonfed (I played SC for six years for god's sake) but it would be nice if I could, I don't know, ask questions in addition to checking every single goddamn wiki and strategy guide on the 'net. It's like going to bosskillers.com for WoW. Yeah, it gives you some kind of idea what to expect (from a scripted mob... heh), but seeing it in context is a completely different story.

I visited strategy sites and wikis for SC. I didn't start getting better at SC until I found a player with about 80% win rate and played some games with him and asked questions like "This is what I'm doing, how can I do this better?". I really don't have that option the way things are now, and the games I lose aren't even close. Not even remotely. I'd like to be able to at least find out why.

I completely agree with you.

However, there is a workaround. If you haven't played more than 5 games since then, you can go into your profile, at the bottom there is a list of 5 recent games. Double click on the game where you played with him. This will bring up the scoreboard. Then rightclick on his name, and click "Add friend".

If you've played more than 5 games since then, this won't work. And I don't think there's anything you can do.
