As a zerg player, this was terrifying to watch. I'm going to be careful around ravens now.

Science vessels counter mutalisks.
Fascinating.
And as protoss?
High Templars supplemented by a few stalkers.

As a Terran player, watching this was almost as awesome as doing it. Get more chance to use late-game tech like Seeker missile in 2v2 then in 1v1, though.

When going against Zerg, i generally like the idea of teching to raven early, if no seeker missles, Point defense drones work wonders against hydralisks.

Ravens, while effective, can be gas heavy and HSM requires you to go all the way to the end of your tech tree. If you A) Didnt scout the spire or B) Had trouble pressuring his base when you did. Large masses of stimmed and upgraded marines with mulch though packs of Mutas. Add in medics for added survivability.

Ok. Um. That was an amazing hunter seeker missile.

that is ridiculous as a zerg player thats hard to watch - hopefully something is done to even that out a lil bit more

As protoss...... I think you better just kill them before they get that many mutas, hahaha....

Lol, silly zerg just eat those missiles. Didn't even space him self to give him time to be able to run form the missiles. Just sat on top of the Ravens. But ya HS missiles are beast. But they're a lot further up the tech than Mutas thou. Still viable counter since if you just land one off on a clump of Mutas it's a major blow.

that was awesome.
Things like this happen a lot in FFA games. The Terran players always come down to mass Raven and Viking spam. >.>

I'm a terran player so obviously I'm biased, but I really don't think anything needs to be done about HSM. It's gas heavy, it's at the very end of the tech tree, and it's the ONLY tool terran has to even have a chance against zerg late game.
And it needs good judgement and decent micro, so it's not just an iwin button.

I agree, it needs a little bit of l2play factor to use it effectively.

That was incredible.
I think the reason that terran is down atm in terns of statistics is that people haven't figured out how to play them yet. Going to try this :D
Or maybe Terran is weak because it's weak. HSM's are the same tech level as Yamato Cannon, Mothership, Carriers (with faster interceptor upgrades), Brood Lords...

You can fly away from HSM pretty easily.
Cirno

The zerg player was an idiot for flying his mutas that close to the ravens. Mutas easily outrun HSMs if they keep their distance and can spot them, so much that using HSMs against them is basically a waste unless you are using them as a deterrence.
Terrans have plenty of ways to deal with mutas. Seeker Missiles don't seem to be the most efficient or effective of them most of the time.

Thats why you hit em when his guard is down. In this particular case, he was just bad.

1 question
that bomb can hit burrowed zergs?
Hulkbot
03-18-2010, 08:04 PM
Ok. Um. That was an amazing hunter seeker missile.
I lol'd irl while watching that. It was cool to see him genuinely baffled by the effectiveness. I hope they don't get nerfed though, it's difficult to tech to HSM while sustaining a decent army if you opponent is good, plus this enemy had no idea it existed apparently. If he knew, he wouldn't have rambo'd the ravens with his mutas but instead used the mutalisk's INSANE travel speed to out maneuver.
It was mostly intel superiority here.
And yes, they can be hit when burrowed. Since the Raven is also a detector there is nothing saving a burrowed unit from HSM.
I do not know what happens if they are burrowed and invisible though.

A few Thors would have done the same thing to units that are so bunched up like that. I think blizz made all these aoe spells to discourage the muta stack and other "tricks" that people exploited so much in SC 1.
But yah...that was a fun thing to watch as a Terran player.

Thors have splash damage, and Mutalisks tend to "clump" together, making the Thor a good counter if you're going Mech. Honestly though, Marines are your best bet against them in StarCraft 2 (http://starcraft-2-strategy.net), and are much more mobile than Thors (especially with Stimpacks and Medivacs).
