This almost feels like SC1 again. Very claustrophobic. What happened to the large FOV from War3 and the battle reports?
Is a patch coming to fix this ? We shouldn't be stuck with a resoultion from 1990s =/

A lot of people have been complaining about it. Blizzard will probably patch something in soon.

The only reason i have even noticed is because people keep bringing it up.

What are you talking about? You can't see enough of the battlefield on your monitor? I can see plenty just fine. I don't think Terran/Protoss are supposed to see their entire base all at once (Zerg have much smaller bases).

I'm certain its that way to stop from giving players with larger monitors an unfair advantage, but I'm sure they can do something to maybe scale the UI down. The question is would it be worth it for them to do that, since it is minor inconvenience and not a game breaking problem/

I see plenty on my 23" LCD @ 1920*1080

As do I, but I still think it should be a bit bigger.

I think it could be a little bigger.
I find myself scrolling up a little bit pretty often.

I disagree. I've got a small monitor and I see just fine. I don't need a grand scope, because the minimap takes care of anything I need to say - a simple click on a bad colored dot and I've got enough intel to make a decision. Not sure what seeing the entire map is going to do considering the fog of war - if anything I'd rather see the action, than just a bunch of dots.
I'm all for making it customizable for people who would like to do this, but I hope they give us an option instead of uniforming it. And no, I don't think its an advantage if people can see more than I can .

I Rather they not zoom out anymore. Some of the maps are very small and I really don't need to have the ENTIRE MAP on my screen.

Had no problems so far with FOV. And I played on both 17" 3:4 and 24" wide.

Scrolling is hard? It's apart of any RTS game.
You must have a heck of a problem when you need to check on your base while you're attacking your enemy. The visible battlefield is fine as is.

1990's resolution? I'm running at a fairly high 1920x1200 and thats anything but 1990s. It's not the resolution, but the maximum zoom out view.
Every player can see the same amount of landscape no matter how low or high your resolution is.

Well, Blizzard has already said that they're limiting the game to one display to keep it fair, just like how they wouldn't add support for resolutions above 640x480 in SC1.
I don't know how I feel about it yet, I don't think I'd zoom out much further than it is now, since I'd miss the beautiful detail on the unit art.

It's fine for me. The other guy can see the same amount of the field as well.

I think it's fine as it is. if we zoom out too much, then microing will become more difficult.

Yeah, I dont want them to zoom things out too much... I think its fine as it is... A big part of SC is how you spend you time managing what...

for people complaining about having to scroll your mouse inside your base.
TIP: Hotkey your production buildings and get used to it. When you want to focus that building or even units in a group, double click the hotkey.

They should just give you the option to zoom out a bit more if you want to. If you like it how it is now, great leave it that way.

Why? What problem is it causing for a player?
Both players have the same amount of screen they can see. You have a minimap to show you blips far away. Most of the time you can fit your entire base on screen.
If they were to allow the camera to pull back more, it could slow down the game for older PCs; or they'd have to write code or make art assets to account for another level of detail. If they didn't, then people with faster machines would have an advantage (less laggy or more field in view).

Just the same as zooming out does not affect your field of vision and unit line of sight. You should be able to zoom in or out as desired to fit your play style. Being able to zoom out does not grant any unfair benefits.
However it's possible that the more you zoom out, the more your computer has to render, and thus it could stack exponentially and lag your game somewhat.
But the 'people with bigger monitors can see more' and the 'zooming out grants a bigger advantage' is total bull, and it's been proven time and time again. What I wanna hear is how a player gains an advantage over another in a mechanic that all players have access to! Thing is, you can't answer that in a way that won't defeat your argument.
I don't see anything wrong with providing the option.

Your walking a thin line right now... Essentially this makes a 2v2 or 3v3 impossible without a protoss player...

Havn't read everything here but my, 2 cents. View is fine as is at the moment. I'm using 1920 x 1200 on my widescreen. I can see everything i need to.

If zooming out didn't give an advantage, you wouldn't want this feature. If you don't consider being able to see more of the battlefield at once an advantage, I don't know what you would consider an advantage. As people were saying earlier, a larger view means less scrolling. Less scrolling, means less things to do, thus it becomes easier.
Not wanting a feature does not mean you wouldn't use it. I don't want it, but if zooming out is a feature, I'd be stupid not to use it. The screen size needs to be large enough so that you can see your clumped army in a single screen. It does not need to be large enough so that you can see your entire base. You don't need to see your warp gates in order to warp units in, but you need to see your stalkers in order to blink. Currently, the screen size works as is.

I'm running 1600x1050, and I think it's fine. I can't really think of a time that I've wanted any larger view of the screen. If it's added, I would love it, I just don't think it's needed.

Use your arrow keys to move around, it helps a lot. That being said it would be nice to have a little more viewing space, at least my whole base and current battlefield so I can keep an eye on things without having to move around a whole lot.

I'd have to agree. The screen size issue isn't a huge problem, I can definitely live with it the way it is now. But since this is a Beta, Blizzard should try pulling the camera just slightly back a little so the we can see a bit more.
Or it's just possible that everything seems a lot bigger and more detailed in this game, so you feel too close to the buildings (claustrophobia?). Pulling back the camera a small bit would solve the problem by shrinking the units just enough to clear this feeling.

I'm wondering. For those of us who say it isn't an issue, would it become an issue if the default view was zoomed out slightly, to the kind of view the battle reports have had? If so, why?

Although I'm getting used to it... I still feel like the view needs to be zoomed out at least one more notch. I'm running at 1600x1200 and I really expected to be seeing more of the battlefield at one time.

Start actually moving your view around, I've yet to actually encounter any issues related to how far the camera is zoomed.
