Hey I recently got into the beta on monday, did my quals started at gold, Im now rank 1 (By like 100 points almost) with 1610 ladder points and was wondering when the heck you move up ladders. I couldnt find this info on the web.
So could someone kindly tell me at what # of ladder points do you go to plat, and I also think it would be a great idea for blizz to add this to the FAQ

Yes, it would be a great idea for Blizz to add this to the FAQ, as this is almost certainly the most Frequently Asked Question on these forums.
No, I don't have an answer for you. Keep playing, winning, and having fun. Ladder points don't matter; it is possible to go straight to Platinum after your placement matches and you'll start with 1000 ladder points.

I keep consistently getting matched with plat players, i should be freaking plat. I dont want to play 300 gold games to "catch-up" in ladder points because two of my placement matches were losses due to D/C. Im at 1620 ladder points now, i've gained 620, Why am i still gold (W:L is like 1.65:1
It's quite annoying as im playing platinum players but i'm not platinum , what the heck is that.
I was told the "rank up" was at 1565 and im wayy past there. Also when i look at my stats page (Not ladder page) it says no 1v1 game information, but it shows recent games played?

Well thank goodness its just beta then, right?
You got PLACED in gold during your PLACEMENT games!
How hard is that to understand?
If you are number 1 in gold then OF COURSE you're going to play platinum level players.
How hard is that to understand?
It has seemed random by the way people move up and down leagues... probably a result of blizzard trying to refresh beta ladders.
Again.. how hard is that to understand.
You got placed (placed is the key word here) in GOLD.

Just some clarification would be nice, beta or not, Googling the subject comes up with around 15-20 topics on these boards, None of them have a response.
Even the Ladder info page in game doesn't say crap about it. Just that its a place for people to play competitively and other useless jibber jabber.

You can move up and down in the ladders, I'm wasting my time in gold. My placement in gold was because of disconnects anyways (2, ended 7-3,) I'm absolutely destroying my competition getting my recent win streaks being 12, 8 and 10. Most of my losses are from a drunken haze the first day of. I've gained over 620 points from 1k to 1620, Im being told its 1565, I'm dont care where I was placed I just want to know when I will move up. I keep mindlessly doing these games, game after game, with no end in sight, No goal to achieve.
I dont care that i'm placed against platinum players, I usually win anyways. It's just that I'm being placed in gold, stuck in gold, and I dont know when the line for plat is.

God, for someone who puts so much emphasis on "understanding", you don't seem to have a clue what the OP is asking. Obviously he knows he was placed in gold due to his placement matches, he wants to know why he's STILL in gold if he's number one in his division. It does not make sense to hold a player at the top of their league, they should progress to the next tier. As for the OP's question, I'm almost positive that the rank-ups occur at set intervals in time, so if you aren't platinum tomorrow... well then I'm a liar.

I guess I'll log off for the night. In my frustration i just lost two games, now i'm only 60 points ahead of the rest of the competition. Thanks for the insight, perhaps in the morning the first place people get ranked up or something or other.
I really wish rank ups were instant though, You could play all day and all night and still not rank? that seems absolutely absurd.

Have a little patience, you'll move up eventually. I figure Blizzard is worrying about other more important things and will explain the matchmaking later.
Why does it matter anyway? While I'm in your shoes (Rank 1 gold with 1732 points) I'm not too worried about whether I'm in platinum or gold. I'm playing platinum/high gold players and getting pretty good match ups all around. While I'd like to know more about it, it doesn't seem like that big a deal :o

This needs to be looked at. There should be an option to manually move up or down if you are in the top 25% or bottom 25% of your division.

Better than having a video card problems and going 4-6 in placement matches due to blue screens and being put into bronze. I've been sitting at #1 for a while. Feels like this dumb thing will never promote me.

A partner and I were 1st place in our silver division, but got moved all the way to copper because we're never on at the same time. Inactivity ftl. WTB 2's partner.

This is pure speculation but it may have something to do with your win/loss ratio. Even if you're terrible, you can grind a ton of games and hit rank 1 no problem unless you're in platinum. When I got promoted, I had like 35-15 record and #2 in my league whereas the #1 guy had like 107-50 or something like that. Actually I didn't want to be promoted because I was about to take #1 in my league! Now I'm not even top 8 :(
Take a look at sczc.sczc the poor guy is ranked 1st in his silver division with a rating of 2106, that's 600 points higher than the 2nd ranked player. He plays only against Platinums. He's been doing that for about three days now.

When I got promoted to Gold it seemed like it was a brand new league cuz there were less than 20 players in it.
My theory is that to be promoted, either another division has to be created on the server, or someone has to get moved down. There is likely a queue of good players in gold/silver waiting for plat players to move down.

If you're rank #1 gold, you're playing all platinum players anyway, so what's the problem?
There is no set # of ladder points required to move up a league.

Yeah, I've lost a game before and then changed from Bronze to Silver. So I'm not sure what's factored in.

My problem is, I've been stuck at #1 well over 50-60 points above my whole division, over 100 at one point and I still have not moved up. I've only been in beta since monday. Why should I continue to be gold, when I have played many platinum players and won many of those games.

I think league placements happen in waves, like the last time I got bumped up from copper to silver there were TONS of new people in my league (! next to their name) and according to the forum this was the case for many leagues.

Once you hit plat you're going to stop getting points for the most part. Most plat users report getting 0 points for most wins, and at most 5-7 with losses clocking in at 20+ points deducted.

From what I have seen when you get bumped up, it's immediately after a win. I don't think it's rating based, I think it it just puts you in "promotion" games sometimes without telling you, and if you win, you move up. I've seen people move up with only 20 games played, 12th place on the ladder, because they won a bunch of games in a row against favored players.

I've had multiple people tell it was after a loss they got bumped up. I'm now over 100 points (1650) over the 2nd place player (1540), And just beat a Platinum 8 ranked zerg twice in a row, and the next game a rank 17th plat terran. Why have I not moved up yet?
I just noticed this "End Tournament Qualifying positions" tab that stops after the 9th ranked player. Some clarifcation on how this works would be heavily appreciated. How long do i have to wait to qualify.

I'm pretty sure this is not the case. I got bumped down a league after I won a game, and I've heard people reporting being moved up after a loss.
I'm not sure exactly what mechanism it uses to decide (nobody but Blizzard does, really), but I'm certain it takes into account more than just one game.
It might be that it doesn't move you up or down if it isn't sure how good you really are. in the OP's case, if he's still consistently winning more than he's losing, then the system doesn't yet know just how good he is. If this is the case, he'll move up just as soon as he gets to the point that he's winning about half his games. Note, that was just speculation on my part and may be way off.

Im 60 games to 35. And my last 6 games were against platinum players (2 vs rank 9 zerg, 1 17 terran, 1 15 toss, and rank 30(ish) terran, 5 wins 1 loss to a plat toss.
I believe this "qualifying position" thing is actually a week long "mini-ladder" top 8 move up, and it brings in the top 8 from the ladder below.
TBH if it were to just keep moving people up mid week, they would have all these random people getting gold, because all the good gold players moved up. And the average skill level would go down. I guess I'll wait till tuesday, as thats when i suspect the ladder change will happen (Top 8 qualifiers move up) to be in line with WoW maintenance.
Just a little frustrating I gotta wait a 4 days to actually find some competetition, because i got my beta on a monday >.>

The tournament positions are not important in beta but will be used in the real game once it is released with a bunch of other ladder and bnet features.
My guess for moving up is the following:
You have a secret MMR (matchmaking rating) which is kind of like the system used in WOW (This is not based on your points in ladder). Once you pass the MMR barrier for say about 50th rank in a platinum (not 100 because then people would be moving leagues too often) league, you will have to maintain this MMR for a certain number of games before you get moved up. This is why sometimes people lose a game and get moved up or they win a game and get moved down because that one game pushed them over a number of games where they were in the right MMR range. Also possibly this is only done every few days and then they promote/demote you after your next game.
This is pure speculation but it answers most of the ladder/league phenomenon I have seen so far. Just keep playing and eventually you will move up if you are as good as you say.

I used to be angry about it like how are u but i eventually just decided to not care anymore. Ive been number 1 of my gold for 10 days (for about 150 games I think ) and I have about the same rating as you. Just remember that league doesnt mean anything and just forget about it.

if im constantly playing worse players than me, Im not learning nearly enough than being beaten by better players. If i was moved up to platinum I would face better competition and in turn become more skilled faster.
So when I get matched with a Platinum rank 2 player, I have only played a handful of good platinum players and have to learn how they play while playing them. It's a broken system.

I think you should remember that this is still a relatively closed beta. You're playing with an average of 8000 players during peak time. You're here to test the balance of the content and the stability of the client on a wide range of hardware; not to inflate your own ego on being "platinum during the beta."
Have fun playing the most anticipated RTS for the last 5 years.
