So i had been playing mainly protoss and terran in my placement matches and some matches after that, and i decide to give zerg a try.

I had already tried to verse a computer but you can't exactly learn much against something that is trying to make you win. I find a match with zerg as my race and just try things out.

After my zergling rush is defeated he attacks me with about 12 zerglings and some other units that i had stopped paying attention to by that point. His units enter my base and he declares "gg".

I had an expansion at a high yield mineral place without destroying the rocks which i was building up. So once his forces arrive there he starts going on about how i'm a noob and i'm wasting his time.

Pretty dickish for the offensive force to say "gg".

Almost as bad as the people that make you go all over the map just to kill some Nexus in the corner of the map even though they've lost their main base.

so did you end up losing or winning?

I had kinda the reverse happening to me. It was my first practice match and after a few exchanges/battles I felt the momentum had shifted towards me. So as I head out of my base to pressure the other player leaves the game. I feel good since it was my first match against a real person, until I got to the match summary screen and saw he had a huge advantage over me. Then I watched the replay closely and damn, I was not even close to being able to beat him. I think he just quit because he realized I was a new player (he had an Observer I didn't know about checking things out at my base).

yeah i ended up losing once he destroyed my high yield mineral base. and it's not like i build a hatchery in some random place, i was actually trying to build up forces or defences.

I hate it when you just reach a guys base with your units, not even done fighting yet and he goes "gg" and leaves... I would almost go so far as to say its disrespectful. If you still have any sort of fighting chance, or even the smallest possibility for a comeback you should stick it out and play.

that's the thing though, first the person winning shouldn't say gg first but at the same time its respectful for you to quit if you know you've been beaten i don't think its a big deal to have to find someone if they think they have you but when you've lost and are just waiting it out that's annoying too so there is a balance you need to find.

One time I nuked my own base instead of letting it be destroyed. It was glorious.

I tried that the other day twice (One in my ally's base that was getting owned, one for my own), and wouldn't ya know it I some how miss the giant army of Hydras both times.... Makes me sad...

Well only problem I am having is like when I wanna do a 2v2, you join a game and you have all 4 people in there, game starts and boom! Your Ally leaves the game or early in the game he leaves cause his rush fails the it becomes 2v1. Kinda is lame when you don't have any other friends that got their beta invite, not even my WoW friends got theirs. So I usually don't get an reliable ally most the time and end up doing 2v1....

Never quit early. I was doing a 2v2 game as zerg with a terran partner, my partner got rushed and quickly eliminated and I was able to take on both players myself and win.

That's unfortunate some people bad manner like that. However with that being said I have found the majority of the people in the beta have all had good sportsmanship thus far.

I've had some really bad experiences (never had problems in WoW beta before) with people that call me a "faggot" after I say hello when the match starts. The really ironic part is that 4 minutes later I get hit with a zergling rush.

pot meet kettle

But I've also met some pretty cool people that I'll chat with for a while even after the match ends. Guess it's a pretty good selection of people.

The worst I've had so far is a guy named Viral in a random 2v2. We tried a 2-person zealot rush on a very skilled Terran opponent and failed, and he starts going off on me about how I should kill myself and whatever else. I was just like... you did the same thing, so calm down! Yeah. Everyone else has been pretty cool so far though, and helpful.

It's a video game. If you don't want to play it, then go outside.

Yes there are definitely some people floating around with some superiority complexes on the beta and the forums. I hate that "I am better than thou" bull$h!t.

I just don't get it... if you're life is so miserable that you have to be a dick to everyone, then why are you taking part in a social function of sorts, such as a forum.

Wish we could petition to have people with poor etiquette removed from the beta, or something.

I'm of the same opinion. It's not over till it's over. Maybe in competitive play it's over at a certain point, but as long as I got some units that can open fire, it's not over for me~

What I don't understand is how these people are so disrespectful. It is amazing how tough everyone can be when they will never see me, or meet me, or be able to say these things to my face. Do these people not realize that Blizzard employees are most likely playing along with us. I mean Blizzard is doing you a favor, and you are an asshat to other people and maybe them. What is the point of being rude, do they talk to their loved ones in life like this? I don't think so. Also I love being called a noob, I mean the game has been in our hands for less than a week, isn't everyone a noob? Bring on the Flames!

The whole "it's a game" thing works both ways. Are you really getting upset that someone is making fun of you over the computer? I find it funny when people talk crap, but maybe that's just me. I think of myself as a pretty respectful player, but I do offensively say gg if the game is in the bag. I don't see a problem with it.

I am not getting upset at all, I find it funny, I was trying to say is that I find no real logical reasoning behind it. It is just a game, but it is a huge annoyance, when the ones who are rude are the ones that take it so seriously. I hate to bring WoW in to this but it is a good, example. It is impossible to get a group with out having to whisper my SS number, send a sample of my urine, the name of my firstborn child, my paycheck and bank account number to even be considered for a group. Then these children cry and leave when they die on trash and don't try, or lose a roll. They want it to be super easy, and find the need to lash out at other people to hide their own incompetence. I just don't want to see that spilling into this game to much. But after all it is just a game.

I have to agree with the 'never give up' sentiment. The game I had the most fun with was the 1v1 where I lost my main base to a stalker rush, lost my next two expansions, and STILL managed to win after an hour of gameplay. Very often, I fought off armies of 20+ units with just a mothership and 2-6 other units. It was extremely satisfying.

I find it hilarious when someone says "gg" to me when they think they are winning, and then I come back and destroy them with superb micro. :)

Yeah, I've faced enough asshole elitists so far to just give up on saying anything in the matches I play. Here we are in beta and I try striking up some conversation about it and all I get is, "yep." Fuck you.

Thus, I paroose the forums for community.

It is bad manner for the offensive player to say gg. gg should be said first only by the losing player.

on the other hand...
I have noticed a lot of games where players do not recognize when they have lost. This could be do to inexperience, but as players progress, they learn when they have been defeated and leave much sooner before all the buildings are destroyed.

Having to destroy all the building when the game is clearly over is sort of annoying imo...

i don't know if this is allowed, but here's a link to a replay i uploaded to rapidshare.
it's not the match i was talking about in my original post, it's just a match where i made a big mistake, then i thought i was just being annoying but i end up winning.

http://rapidshare.com/files/354087508/holy_crap_how_did_i_win.SC2Replay.html

get in quick because only the first 10 people can download it.
and i haven't actually tried running someone elses replay, but as far as i know you just copy it into
My Documents/Starcraft II Beta/replays/multiplayer/
and it'll show up in game..?

also if anyone's interested i have an incredibly close TvZ match where the deciding moment is a split second nuclear launch.
