I love my authenticator and although there is some recent controversy (man-in-the-middle), I truly feel they are essential.

That said, the new input for my Authenticator ID in SC2 is annoying, to say the least, compared to Warcraft.

If you are unaware, in WoW you put in your login and password and hit enter which pops up a separate window allowing for the entry of the Authenticator code. In SC2, the login/password/authenticator are all in one box which, I have found, causes a decent bit more rejections due to typos.

Please go back to login/password with authenticator popping up. It makes it so much more fluid then it is now and provides consistency between Blizzard games.

Any thoughts are appreciated :)

Personally I like it this way better.

WoW 3.3.3 will make the login to WoW like the one you are seeing in SC2. Which is better than the way it's currently done in WoW.

So I got into beta this Friday and have been having a blast (Rank 9 Gold) nothing impressive really but the matchmaking system works well for me. Anyways so I tried to log in about 30 minutes ago and it asked me for an authenticator (which I didn't even know what that was at first). Did my research and now I know.

But of course I've never purchased one soooo... until bilzz e-mails me back about this, I can't log in to starcraft 2. Fate is a cruel mistress :-(.

P.S. This post was at the top and since I can't play right now I feel I was just destined to QQ a little bit. ^_^

If you suddenly got an authenticator on your account, maybe you were hacked?

do you play WoW as well, if someone hacked your WoW acct and threw an Auth on it then it will lock you out of SC2 as well.

that or you got something on the PC, someone thought you had a WoW acct since its all bnet logins and threw an auth on your acct thinking they where stealing a WoW acct.

Possibly, but that's the weird thing, my password still works. Because it asks you when you sign-in online for password first.. then authenticator as a separate issue. So if someone did they didn't change my password.

Then to the other guy, I used to have an active WoW account, but it's been over 6 months (if not longer) since it's been active.

The only reason I can log-in here is because when it tells me "You do not have the required access level to post here, please log-in with an account with proper access" once I click the button it already knows who I am from before so I don't have to enter in any information. Here's hoping blizzard is quick with responding to my e-mail I sent.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't check your password until after you type in your authenticator (in WoW) - I've mistyped my password and it didn't kick me back until after I had input my authenticator code.

It does when you go to battle.net using a web-browser. I just tried to enter a bogus password and it told me my password was invalid. So if I did get hacked.. they were nice enough to keep my password. ;-)

I like the new method better (WoW is changing to this anyways to be consistent). Although I'm not sure what the point of masking the authenticator numbers is.

Yeah the new method is fine, but they should still show the numbers. Not that I've mistyped them even once, though.

Yep. Better to be safe than sorry, get an authenticator NOW if you don't have one.

I prefer this method.

As for the guy that can't log in, I would call Blizzard about it, seems like you got hacked. Call and try to do something about it. They may of kept the password since you can't do much with it anyway with an authenticator blacking it.

Also at least in WoW, it won't tell you what was wrong if you miss typed something, could be password, could be code. Not sure about SCII.

If you also have a WoW account (or even if you don't), you should check out the information on the WoW customer service forum. An authenticator suddenly appearing on your account means your account has been compromised. You'll need to get a hold of Blizzard Account Services about getting it restored.

Good luck in getting your account back.

I don't mind having both fields on one window versus the pop-up. I DO mind not being able to see the numbers of the code I'm typing in. The authenticator code changes every time, so why the need to conceal it as it's being typed on the screen? The only thing it does is make it more likely that I'll screw it up. THAT is what I want them to change about it.

How many people ITT have used a lighter to read their Authenticator numbers?

<------Guilty on WAY MORE then one occasion. :X

My auth code and password happen to have an equal amount of characters, so if I made a type I catch most mistakes pretty easily. Either way, this was is as smooth as it gets. My only qualm is I always pull out my phone a couple of seconds too late, but is a habbit really something worth complaining about?

Took my authenticator off my account because of SC2.

Having to enter it every 5 minutes after being logged off due to watching an older version replay got real old real fast.

I probably entered the code more times my first night on SC2 than I have on WoW since I bought the thing.

I also had to buy a physical auth cause the mobile one makes my phone buzz non-stop through any speakers, radio, or anything that can pick up a signal without 10 feet 24/7. By far the most annoying !!*! i've ever heard in my life.

Overall i'm not a fan.

FYI...

Patch Notes for 3.3.3: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=23329393385&sid=1

Authenticator Frame: If a player has a Battle.net Authenticator attached to his or her account and selects Remember Account Name at the login screen, the next time that player logs into World of Warcraft, a field to input the Authenticator code will be displayed below the password field.

I guess they're changing it to be like SC2... sorry! :)

I like the way starcraft 2 does it. It makes it more secure. The hacker doesn't know if he messed up on your password or authenticator with it.

He wouldn't on WoW either, not that I like WoW's method better (I don't)

The hackers now put their own authenticators on the accounts to completely lock you out of it until blizzard gets there. It gives them a good solid 24-48 hours of doing whatever they want to your account. It's a hassle to pull out the stupid little thing and type in numbers especially when it's dark and you can't see the damn thing, but would you rather be stuck without an account for a few days or even weeks since it can take that long to restore everything?
