You may or may not know you are crashing when trying to load multi-player games because of a desync error that happens when you connect to someone with a dual core or better processor.

It will crash both your and their clients.

I'd really like to start playing some matches against players if possible. if any of you are having this problem feel free to add me to friends and we'll get some matches in.

It doesn't crash against other single core processor / AGP gfx users.

I think it's time for you to save your coffers and buy something made this century.

working on it... till then I'd still like to play.

I... didn't know people still used this... Wasn't single cores just after C64? Maybe they were both so long ago I totally forgot.

There are *still* single core chips out there, although dual core has become the standard for even 'low end' parts in the past couple years.

AGP is pretty damn ancient at this point.

At any rate, Blizzard makes a big effort to scale their games to lesser hardware. SC1 only required a 90MHz CPU. It's especially important if you want your game to be popular in non-Western markets where expensive modern gaming hardware is a bit less universal.

90 MHz?.. Did you mean 900?

90 Mhz lol.

No, he meant 90.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarCraft

System requirements 90 MHz processor

16 MB RAM
640x480 8-bit display

I remember I had a 166mmx or something and thought I was really rocking. Then Diablo II came out and I had to upgrade.

I have a Pentium IV 1.89 GHZ processor and a 256 MB GeForce 6200 card.

The only real problem I encounter while playing is that my computer sometimes "chokes". It freezes for a few seconds and then goes back to normal.

Otherwise, nothing.

Nope he meant 90. SC1 was even ported to the N64 which had a 90Mhz CPU.

old hardware or not, something that causes both people to crash needs to be fixed.

I think the issue is only with AMD single cores only. ..maybe

Uh oh, I recently gave a friend an old single-core CPU. I hope it can work...

It doesn't use an AGP video card though.

I'm on a single core, AMD machine. The board handles much higher (and doesn't have AGP slots), the video setup is fairly beefy and I've got probably the top of the line, non-studio sound card unless something else came out more recently.

Sadly, despite having so much video muscle the single core ruins the game on anything but low settings.

Haven't crashed anyone yet, though.

hopefully us poor people can play soon. any other single core AMD with AGP mobos out there not experiencing crashes?

The info's been pretty helpfull. Figure most people not crashing aren't looking at the tech support section.

Not all of us have beast gaming computers we all decided to dump 5 grand on cause there isnt a better use for it (i.e. gf?) We just all need that 8 GB DDR RAM in a computer so we could post it up on our signatures for the rest of the virgin population to see. I still use a single core processor and I can play the game no problem. I dont care that I dont have that Nvidia "10,000 1GB" gfx or whatever. As long as my computer turns on, then its cool. Just play the beta and be damn grateful for the opportunity. AGP is old? Who the hell cares? Again its not like we all have the birthday money to go out and dump money on a dual core/PCI express slot motherboard. Jeez I dunno I just hate how you people talk down on other peoples rigs. Your technology out dates itself everytime you wake up and take a *%*! in the morning. So keep wasting money on pointless upgrading. Its not like the products are american made anyway.

Man... I got enough money for both. Even then... a computer that crushes SC2 should only cost around $800 max. I think that's being generous.

Its not like the products are american made anyway.

We live in a global economy. Even if they're not manufactured by Americans they're probably designed by them... even then, it doesn't matter.

You could buy a gaming computer for about $700. Not $5000. It's obvious from your post that you know nothing about computers. You can get 8Gigs of ram for like $100-120(DDR2).

Oh, and I would never spend that much money on my girlfriend. She can pay for her own ##!*.

wish i had 700$ i could devote to gaming but as a starving college student i don't see it happening for a few months.

90 Mhz lol.

Oh look, someone who is new to computers. Welcome.

My first PC was 45mhz with 8mb of ram, 14k modem.

My 2nd one was the one I played SC on, a beefy 166mhz , 32mb, 56k modem!

HAH, my first PC was a 286-12mhz with 1mb of ram with a monochrome (amber) display. :)

And that was not my first computer (I realize PC is short for personal computer, but has long since been meant to refer to IBM compat computers). Before that I had about 4 different models of Atari computers. The first being an Atari 400 with 16k of ram. My first modem, for the Atari, was 300 baud.

Yah, I'm an old fart. Suddenly I realize... this is not something to be proud of. LOL.

AGP? Isn't that from the video card stone age or something??

(Time for a new rig bud)

Yeah, I remember playing SC on a P90. It ran great, then I upgraded to a Celeron 300A and it was spooky how fast things went.

My first PC I don't even remember the specs for.

My second PC (the one I'm using now) was probably around the upper crust when it came out. It'll be about 7-8 years old in June-ish.
