Let's face it, at some point you've been jealous of the South Koreans because they have StarCraft TV. Right now, with the SC2 beta in my hands and the release on the horizon, my South Korean jealousy meter is off the charts.

It's not impossible for the USA to get StarCraft TV. Hell, Blizzard could make their own online TV channel in a heartbeat. The problem is, you gotta pay for it to make it happen. So, how badly do you want StarCraft TV?

The Question:
How much would you pay, monthly, for a StarCraft channel with 24-hour broadcasting of: commentated matches, tournament coverage, and general eSports and game-related news?

In my book, I'd say a single high-quality channel with normal advertising slots should cost around $5 a month, $10 with minimal advertising, and $15 with no advertising. What do you think?

I would only watch an hour or two Starcraft, so I would not pay a subscription for a 24 hours of it. It would be nice if a channel like G4 had an hour show with highlights of big games that have been played.

i think Starcraft is more popular then Soccer in South Korea.

I would go for $10 to $15.

But I would enjoy it if they had an "online streaming" version, because I already watch most of my TV shows on my laptop or PC anyways.

Gomtv.net did this for awhile and was quite sweet. Was something like 50 bucks for live streams and if you missed them, they were on vod by the next day. The 50 bucks covered all games from the round of 64 and on (selected a few from the round of 128) with English commentary. I enjoyed it immensely Staying up till 5am to watch live Starcraft was a treat.

To be honest, I think that these days we can cover our own competitive gaming online. With the ever-improving quality of streams, and sites like TL and GG, it seems like having a TV station dedicated to SC2/SC1 isn't even necessary.

I'd like to add that all the 'competitive gaming' shows on TV right now are incredibly ridiculous. These things like Major League Gaming or whatever are basically just a commercial for Microsoft to sell xboxes.

Put it on ESPN 8, The Ocho.

$0

And I wouldn't watch it if were on TV either.

As much as I love starcraft, the forums, replays, and fan sites are more than enough.

Depends on the quality of the content. If there was SC2 TV, it would have to showcase high stakes tournaments of players at dauntingly high skill levels battling in intense games with quality, professional, and knowledgeable casters. Like south korea does it with SC1. Even the pros look good.

I've seen the insides of the WoW esports avenue. Pale acne covered nerds staring fixed lit by the glow of their monitor, fail attempts at casting and crummy spectating made for a poor experience.

I'll have to admit that I wouldn't be willing to pay for it, especially given the quality of replays built right into the game. I'm looking forward to replays becoming shareable and being able to watch them with my friends on b.net.

Otherwise, there are currently many many live streams giving beta coverage. I fail to see why it would necessarily have to change after it ends.

It's not that I don't want to see SC2 on tv. It's that I think the fansites have it covered, and if anything, it should remain in their hands. That said, if one of the fansites had an hourly special on a TV network, I'd watch it on TV as well.

Who needs TV? You can't get it in your dorms anyways. Just get Gom and Tasteless back, and give me my Moletrap/Nuke/Diggity, Day[9], and the occasional Team Liquid casts.

You'd think calling people nerds on the internet would have lost its troll value by now.

guess nerds are just that insecure about being nerds :/

Also $0.00 here. Why pay for that? I can watch streams for free, and I can watch tons of recorded games and/or replays. There is a ton of news and info out there, and these very forums as well.

I would pay a little bit for it if it was significantly better than youtube.

rofl XD

Anyway, I would pay if it was high level play with good commentators. There are streams and youtube vids, but how many of them are really riveting games? I'd pay $5-10$ a month maybe $15 if it was super awesome
