I'd like to learn more about either, i'm relatively new to starcraft, but i think im doing alright and i have seen a lot about the 3 or 4 gate rush.. so is it 3? or 4? how many zealots do you send, do you tech up at all? Any info about it would be nice, thanks.

It all depends on how fast you are trying to get the units out. A single base (1 nexus) can support up to 4 Warp Gates in constant production, assuming you are no longer building new technologies and already have 22 Probes up and harvesting.
A "4 gate" isn't really a rush but more of just a general build order. It requires a lot of money to set-up so by that point its not really a "rush".
You can read more about some of these protoss strategies at this Starcraft 2 strategy guide (http://www.sc2guidereviews.com)
4 gate is a popular and effective build for a timed push, about 8-10 minutes into the game. 2 Gate can get units in the enemy's base in 5 minutes.
A 3 gate can be used to put out early pressure while expanding or teching up. My preferred build - will throw down more Gateways after securing an expansion.

it depends on what units your planning to use Zealot rush 3 gate is more then enough stalker is better to have 4 gate.

4 gate strategy is one of the best strategyes of protoss cause you can push youre enemy continuosly so u will have no problem against terran ,but against a zerg try to use sentrys cause the zerg will make a lot of zerglins so just try to make a wall between you and his army
