View Full Version : Sensor Tower
In a game I just played, I was thinking how useful it would be if the Sensor tower could make a little blip noise to get my attention, or an indication on the minimap so I know it's detected something. If it does this already, I haven't noticed (or I'm just not paying enough attention, in which case, disregard this post).

The sensor tower is such a cool idea.
I hate that it costs so much making it not worth it.

It aint that hard to see the Red Icons on the minimap when a enemy enters the detection area. Frig most maps now, the detection area goes right into there base. If you had a blip, you would be here saying to get rid of it. ;P

yeah im surprised more people done use them offensivly. put it in a corner somewhere near the enemy base and it will let you see what kind of building they have

My biggest problem with the sensor tower is not its price - it is that the radius can be seen by enemies, they can just camp the troops right outside the circle and attack after assembled, it completely defeats the purpose of the tower.

Agreed with this.

The radius itself can be used, though.
Ferrying off and building a sensor tower and AA tower on the island base on scrap station, for example, causes a lot of people to build an air force to go kill your "expansion".
It's pretty funny tricking people into raiding your "expansions" while you're waiting with a drop force to destroy their main.

They'd basicly be maphacks at that point; people would put them behind trees and junk all over the map.
The Sensor Tower needs it's price reduced, perhaps 100/50 so that placing them is no longer a "Well do I want to blow all my gas on a tower for an early warning" and it becomes a must-have of any Terran establishment.
The fact that it gives away it's location and that it costs so much are the two main downsides to it's use, remove one and it becomes a much more useful building.

I agree on the costing too much gas issue, but the ring is a necessity. If it wasn't there then I would be building them wherever I could drop an scv with a medivac.
As it stands right now they are very useful for base defense once you have already been scouted. They are even bordering on useful as offensive scouting measures (place one in your opponent's nat and see all the units in their base).

The one huge up to the ring is the trap factor, throw one at a yellow with some anti-air and siege tanks and you can score some easy kills for a fairly low cost.

I find that it is more useful as a counter to high ground attacks or for full siege tank range use than an early warning system.
