View Full Version : What do you want to do with the Galaxy Editor

There are obviously a lot of people out there who really wish to get their hands on the new map editor, but do you have plans on what you want to do? Perhaps recreate Dota some how? Tower Defense? Something original (the rarest thing we'll see).

I myself want to play around with creating a side campaign. With all you can do to edit units and characters, it'd be so easy to create side missions and intertwine them with the actual story.

If it can be done in WC3, it can be done ten times better in the Galaxy editor- or so I hope.

I already have the units picked too... Immortal: Strong, a little slow, easy to hit, a lot of health. Ghost: Fast, can snipe, hard to hit, but flimsy. And Hydralisk: Medium strength and health, can burrow and has a strong melee attack.

I doubt I'll have time to mess with the editor, but I've always enjoyed the open RPGs that people made, probably moreso than any other UMS.

ill first and foremost recreate ALL the origional SC games in the better graphics if someone else doesnt do it for me.

then ill create various scenarios for a co op campaign and release it somehow to the mass public for an enjoyable co-op campaign experience.

Twisted little game of Mafia that thing was.

Also, Island Defense. It was basically one ungodly powerful hero unit, controlled by one player, trying to bash their way into the other 7 players bases, which were constructed of towers, to MURDER them and enslave their damn souls.

Depending on what it can or can't do, I'd like to try and make a SC rendition of DoW2's Last Stand - a Marine, a Dark Templar (because, really, they're awesome) and perhaps a Roach?

However, it all depends on if the Galaxy Editor will allow for units to level up...

Actually, an option to allow people to save their heroes during a game or at the end of the game could be really cool.

It'd allow some amount of persistence in certain rpgs and games. If someone makes an rpg like say, Final Fantasy, then it'd be nice if leveling is slow enough that it could take several days of playing to complete.


Also: for level design, modular design stuff.

Say someone wanted to make a new game like Starcraft 3 or something. It'd be good if you could have a friend change all the zerg stuff, one friend all the terran stuff, and one friend changes all the protoss stuff, then just import the other two races.
If the editor allows so much custom programming, anything that allows multiple people to collaborate will help lots.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Also, importing your character to new releases. Kind of like a "Fun RPG part 1" map is released, you get to play it until you get all the super cool stuff and max level, and then when the creator(s) make "Fun RPG part 2" you get to take your old guy with you and continue leveling up.

That would frigen rule.

I was always a fan of those starship trooper maps, or the ones where you had 1 unit and upgraded him... made a couple, so i think i'll revisit those.

can belive any1 has said RE (resident Evil) maps those on WC3 and SC 1 were so dam nice my friends and me love to play them at LAN partys and on battle net its just to nice when you are just 6 people surround by zombies trying to survive and never forget the dam PK that trys to kill thier own Allys lol

PD : mini games maps were also good for passing time BTW dota its seems alrdy being made by blizzard so GL trying to beat them if any1 is going to try

I've got a pretty good studio mic and sound editing software, so I plan on creating side story missions. One of which would be the last of the Conclave, where you've managed to save the last of the old technologies (Dragoons, Arbiters, etc) and try to regroup on a planet to try and awaken old Templar technology (Mothership, Collossus, Immortals, etc). You'd have to fight custom build ordered Dark Templar that over the centuries found refuge on the planet, as well as the new zerg threat that followed the Conclave there.

Another is a campaign of a newly infected Terran Ghost (Not Duran, lol) that finds a way to break his connections with Kerrigan, and begins to create an army of infected custom build order Terran units under her nose.

Basically, I want to do a side story for each race. I'll come up with something for Terran some time too. I'll work on the stories once the game's out.

I'll probably make some melee maps at first just to get a handle on the terrain editing.

Then I might play around with a tower assault map, assuming there's something analogous to gold coins from WC3's map editor in Galaxy.

They already announced that you will be able to save data to banks to carry between plays or maps.

Among the interesting things are stuff like adding in a new resource, custom races viable for melee, a 'story mode' space, wrap around maps (moving at the right edge of the screen will place you on the left edge), and being able to adjust water and lava levels.

Using a custom boat unit in conjunction with islands and cliffs and raising and lowering water levels with switches to create a massively confusing puzzle map a la Water Temple. Tears of rage ensue.

Also, a TeamFortress style map. Incorporating elements from Natural Selection, like top-down commanders issuing orders and buildings stuff.

Make Adventure/RPG maps with a good storyline and dialogues and not being afraid of running of TEXT STRINGS as happened with the original Campaign Editor. Now i'll be allowed to add more characters to each game and never run out of units.

There will be much to do, and i speak on behalf of all those map makers who had to drop projects because they couldn't be done on the previous one, all hail the Galaxy Editor, our new master tool!

I will mostly look to be upgrading and recreating warcraft 3 maps. With the mouselook and fps option though, some interesting things could be done but until I know more it's hard to say what is possible.

[edit] Oooh, or i'd love to see if someone could pull off multiplayer co-op singleplayer type missions. Greater challenges than one might see in single player, but done in such a way where you can ally with a friend to overcome.

but, wouldn't the Queen be a better choice for the Alien role? And the DT for the Predator?

diablo clone. fans will probably have made diablo 3 in the SC2 editor years before diablo 3 comes out.


I just hope Blizzard includes some hi-def WC3 models aswell as kerrigan and protoss heros instead of withholding them for the expansions, I'd rather have a Blizzard model than a fan made one.

Im thinking of doing a type of hero arena game where you get a hero and fight other heros (duh). You have basic abilites for the chosen type of characters plus random upgrades as you roam around, you gain levels by killing other characters, but they dont add anything to you, just when you reach like level 20 (or something) you win the game.

Throughout the game there are random 'warp points', when you enter them you randomly spawn at a random spawn point that could be the same one or could result in death (making you lose more than 1 level)

The theme will be a huge intergalactic arena where space gladiators have to duke it out to determine who survives.

Pretty basic

hehe, I think you underestimate the power of the galaxy editot. He's only talking about the model for each of them. The size of each would probably be increased for awesomeness, and the Hydralisk might have a melee attack with a ranged ability and something like the Queens ability. The Predetor would be a zealot but with a permanent cloak like the predator. This is actually one of the easier things to do with the galxaxy editor.



I'm looking forward to just enlarging an interceptor to see what they really look like when they're a little bigger.

It's a shame that so few of the projectiles really look unique, that was one of the cooler ways of creating units in the WC3 editor, using the KoTG's projectile for example.

Well let's say that they're mixed, you can make good maps just with triggers, and you can also use scripts if you wish.

Oh I know what he was driving at, I meant I think the Queen resembles the Aliens more, and a Dark Templar resembles a Predator more.
I've had some experience with the World Editor, I know you can throw around abilities and mess with features such as unit size :)
