View Full Version : Your Most Clever or Epic Wins So Far

I posted another thread about your most lame defeats, but I was also thinking one about your most epic, or clever wins that you have had, could also be interesting.

1) It was a near stalemate, and I had a couple of units left(zealot and sentry) but I was outnumbered by a few M&Ms. I thankfully had a sentry, I hallucinated a colossus with range, my enemy saw the beams said GG and left.

2) Winning with a few dark templars late game is always nice. Its easy for opponents to think you have committed to going air for example, yet ive won many a game with a coordinated 1 or 2 dts striking the enemy mineral lines.

3) Phoenix rushing the enemy zerg. What? Phoenix?!? Really? It can be useful if your enemy goes roaches and you take out his overlords and camp your phoenix over his larvas.. hah. Going phoenix has paid off only once so far, but it was sweet.

4) A TvP match. We both controlled about half of the map. In a rather funny move i put all my attacking units at the very bottom near the high yield expansion, while he moved all of his units on the top part of the map. We hit each others bases full force at the same time with zero defenses each, so the race was on to take out buildings. I managed to destory his base to a few barracks and supply depots, eliminating all his expansions and scvs, and at the end of the fight he had destroyed all of my buildings and was left with a significantly larger army( after our forces eventually met)...except before moving my warp prism behind his CC to drop in dts at the start of the raid, i dropped off a probe on an island and had enough cash for a Nexus, with a single probe. He was without dropships ;)

I really want to try infesting some units and moving them over some baneling mines as a tactic, havent had the chance to use to really try it.

Anyone else have success with any smooth moves?

Spine crawler rush with a rather noobie zerg opponent.

He was getting a slow spawning pool so when i had the minerals i built extractors on his extractors to get his attention and then immediately built two spine crawlers amidst his workers. Best zvz ever. No stress~

Only good against slow techers. His queen couldn't stand up to even one spine crawler. Was epic.

Mass infestors are surprisingly fun and effective. Mind control 75% of an opponents army, Fungral Growth, spam Infested Terrans and even a M&M&M ball went down.

I'm in a mirror match with another Toss and decided to rush him because he was teching too fast. I killed all his probes with my main army, but didn't have enough stalkers/sentries to deal with the two void rays he used to kill my nexus with, eventually I killed a few buildings but lost my military force. Without 400 minerals to make a nexus it was all or nothing, so after killing everything but his nexus, a pylon and a cybernetics core my last standing forces -- the probes -- came in and won the game for me before he killed them all off.

Possibly the funniest game I've had so far.

wasn't really a win but it was a 2v2, me and a chick who's never played an rts in her life and the opponents, both terran (we were all terran actually), rush her and kill her pretty fast. i tried to get to her and save her but i just didn't have the units to beat both of their forces. my team mate had built like 2 marines. haha. anyway, later into the game they attacked me with a bunch of vikings and some bcs, and by then i had maybe 12 or so vikings, a couple bcs, and like 8 ravens. those sentry drones that ravens have? ya. those completely rock against other vikings. focus fired the bcs down and used seeker missiles on their packs of vikings. i came out of that battle way ahead and proceeded to annihilate my closest opponent. other dude just massed marines and medivacs and just rolled right over me in the end though. oh well.

This is not my win but I thought it was worth sharing (and I got 2nd place when I should have gotten 4th :)

I joined an FFA, which I'm usually pretty good at, taking into account sometimes FFA losses are just being in the wrong place at the wrong time).

While I'm fast expanding/mid teching expecting most people to either hard tech or fast rush (I know how to handle both), a squad of marines show up in my main's probe line.

Sure enough, I had been rax dropped. (That is, three barracks were floated in to my base)

So I figure, okay, I got cheesed and I got cleaned out, but this guy clearly gimped himself and is going to get steam rolled.

But, I kept the game open the whole time (I had a pylon present still) and visited the forums while the game went on. Eventually my pylon got killed and I loaded the replay to see what happened. The rax-dropper won which amazed me, but what amazed me more was I was the last one to die :)

A constant back and forth TvP game involving EMPs and T-Storms on the small map Steppes of War. The game ended quickly but wonderfully. After consisting harassment at his natural, I sent a lone ghost to drop a nuke at his cannon line, which was far enough away that his probes would have been unaffected.

I left my army, which consisted of three more ghosts, two tanks, a pile of marines and some marauders outside of his natural. When the nuke was targeted, he panicked and ran his army out of his natural, right into my waiting army. Panicking again, he drew his forces away from my tanks, back into his natural. At the same time, he had sent all his probes away from his natural back to his main to avoid the nuke.

His army fled from my tanks at the exact same time that his probes crossed their way to try and make it into the main which all happened exactly as the nuke crashed to the ground and destroyed all of his probes and his entire army in one hit.

I didn't even get to finish the attack before he said "Gg" and left.

Blistering sands, I played defensively the whole game, using some banshees and vikings to quickly repel attacks, but the guy had major map control and was building up a huge army to steamroll me with. Game must have been 30 minutes long or so, and he held the advantage for most of the game.

Eventually he decides to go for the win and moves a bunch of thors, tanks, and infantry out of his three bases, moving towards the middle and to my natural. I meet his army with half of mine, epic fight ensues, he thinks he's about to win.

I then use several sneaky ghosts to drop FIVE nukes in three bases within like 4 seconds of eachother. G freaking G.

Best win so far for me was PvP on Blistering sands. We were both going for a form of zealot rush however he outrproduced me becaus I was teching to warpgates with a proxy pylon while he was just straight up pumping out zealots using regular gateways.

As a result, he got a good 10 more zealots than me. I was trying to break through his rocks when he started pushing with his bigger force. I saw it and decided i have no chance to stop that so I broke through the rocks and we both started decimating each others bases.

So naturally he thought it probably was a race to the finish and that he would win since he had the larger force. HOWEVER, he never saw my proxy pylon until he destroyed my nexus and by then it was too late and I had won.

Very clever use of of Forcefields for me.

In a PvP matchup he sent out 12 zealots, and I had 2 stalkers, 2 sentries and 4 zealots. I cut his force in half on the ramp into my base, then he retreated. When I finally made a move against his base, he had a horde of zealots that I managed to cripple by constantly forcefielding them away from my range units.

Played on Lost Temple 2v2
So it was my Pand Z team vs P and P. The other team zealot rushes my zerg ally and he leaves and they come for me. i had like 6 zealots, a sentry and a few photon cannons that manged to hold me out till i teched to collosus. Even with the big guys they had me trapped in my Main base. They never saw my secondary above behind the destructible rocks so from there i teched to dark templars and warp gates. used a prism to take 4 templars in the back door of one of there bases and warped in 4 more and met no resistance. But saw about 8 carriers headed to my base. I hid a prob away back to where my allys base used to be and prepared for the worse. but by the time his carriers finished off my secondary, and were working on my main my Dark templars were moving onto my second enemy. needless to say by the time his carriers found were i was hiding my new base my dark templars won the game for me. It was a gamble but it worked lol.

Scrap station, I tower and void ray the enemy protoss base, Lose everything but I have an xpo on the island and I destroy his capability to produce air units, then I take out all his xpos until he cannot rebuild. He has a huge army of zealots some stalkers and colossus but cant stop my 6 void rays on a rampage and I win the game because of my island base from which I build some carriers ^^

Very, very early in the beta (since I always random), I noticed Overlords aren't detectors anymore. I was Protoss and the opponent was Zerg. Had 3-4 Dark Templar and sent them in. Madness ensued as he couldn't figure out what was happening.

Accidentally made a thread on this, didn't see this one, but:

I was playing ZvT, on that map (can't recall the name) with the long, winding ground path between the two bases, but leaving them very close by air.

I started out scouting with an overlord, didn't see anything in his base. Went to send two zerglings, saw him trying to build barracks outside of my base. He'd just finished the first, so I pumped out a few roaches. The thing is, he was putting everything into this assault, so I needed a few minutes to mass up the roaches.

I upgraded their burrowing and moving while burrowed ability, and then dropped a changeling and walked it in among his marines. Noticing a lack of detectors (but alarmed to see a siege tank!), I moved my roaches in his midset and unleashed them. After two waves, I broke his siege and forced a retreat.

Scouting with the Overseer, I saw that back at his own base, he was going for vikings, so I pumped out about 15 hydralisks and dropped another changeling (he didn't seem to notice the only marine in his base!).

I burrowed my roaches over to his supply depot wall, then dropped a nydus worm in the back. I pumped the hydralisks through it, and they slaughtered his workers and drew the attention of the vikings. Then I popped the roaches up, broke his supply depot wall, and destroyed his base from both sides while continuing to funnel in hydralisks from the Nydus wyrm.

It was the best use of Zerg I've made so far, and while I'm still a Copper/Bronze-leaguer (it seems to bounce me back and forth randomly), I was pretty proud of myself!

i did an early attack of about 8 zealots into the enemy protoss' base. The zealots ended up taking out about 3 pylons and a forge as well as all the attack units in his base before being wiped out by his allie coming in with roaches and wiping out my force.

About 3 minutes afterward they managed to get a couple zealots and a massive army of roaches to my base, but by that time i had about 3-4 colossus, about 6 zealots and some stalkers. The colosus' absolutely shredded both the zerg and protoss' counterattack, making mincemeat of the roaches. I countered their counter and won the game.

Terran vs. Terran

Epic battle where I went straight for the Banshee harass. He had M&M and was stopping me from completely destroying him with Turrets, but I kept making Banshees and was able to keep taking out Turrets and harassing. He started to get a couple Vikings, so I made more Vikings than he did and continued the harass. Continuing this, we both expanded, and he kept turtling up, and I kept trying to take out his economy while building up Siege Tanks, but then I noticed that he had six Starports and was pumping Battlecruisers.

Yes. I went "Oh, !%*#".

At this point, I immediately destroyed the Tech Labs on my 4 Starports, build Reactor Cores, and built about 32 Vikings. Once I had that, he tried to attack my expansion with 8 Battlecruisers, which fell to my Vikings. I had about 8 Vikings left. He proceeded to cuss me out and quit.

Terran vs. Protoss

Again, I go for the Banshee harass, as I see he's going for Immortals. Unfortunately, before I can get more than 3 Banshees out, he hits my base (where I had basically no ground units because I scrimped for fast Banshees). I was able to take out all of the Zealots/Immortals, but he took out all of my Supply Depots, both Barracks, and both Starports. I quickly rebuild (with the help of 3 MULE's) and proceed to harass him a little and continue to make Banshees and a few Marauders. I take out his Robotics Support Bay and a few Probes, but he gets a lot of Stalkers and Cannons, and then hits my base. He had enough Stalkers to get me down to one Banshee, but at that point Cloak BARELY finishes and I take out all of his forces with one Banshee. Again, he destroys all of my Supply Depots, my Barracks, and my Starports. So, I continue to rebuild. At this point, I'm running very low on resources so I expand to my natural (protected by destructables). I continue to build Marauders and Banshees (he had killed all of my Marauders in the last attack, but I had a few Banshees left). With my Banshees, I go to see if he had expanded, knowing that if he did, I'd be **%*ed. To my depressing surprise, he did, but, for some reason, he had NO cannons. So I destroyed his Nexus. He tries to attack me AGAIN, but with only Stalkers, and this time, he breaks into my base, but my Marauders and Banshees hold him off. From there, I build up about 6 Banshees and 10 Marauders, march into his rebuilt expansion, completely level it and his army of solely Stalkers/Sentries, and proceed to win.

Epic comeback, IMO.

TvT — No ''real'' confrontation until the 8 minutes mark or so. With some scouting, I realized I was able to moreorso tech freely while the Terran went for a mass of Marines and Marauders.

I could of pushed him back with Tanks, but I chose to build Banshees instead and research their Cloak ability. I did have some defense, but not nearly enough to defend my base, so I went for his instead, with my 3 Banshees (all I could build before my base was assaulted.)

I took a bet and it paid off. He had not built Missile Turrets yet and had no units in his base ; needless to say a carnage happened for another. He did start training a few marines, but it's nothing Banshees can't quickly take care of. Then of course he lifted his last buildings, just like I had done myself ; and of course I regretted not getting at least 1 Viking for this.

He did the most logical thing to do — he sent his last buildings (2 Barracks and his Orbital Command) to a field of minerals, where his army stood, willing to slowly but surely (must he have thought!) build himself again. And here comes the magic of Starcraft 2 : there's is only so much you can do to detect the invisible! A few hit n runs, a sacrifice of a banshee, and he was left with nothing but a powerless ground force.

Both of us commited mistakes, and while it's not the greatest game I'll come to play even in the next few days, I enjoyed our desesperate attempts at survival.

On Metalapolis, my 2v2 partner and I both took our Command Centers to the middle at the beginning of the match, stocked up on minerals and built a bunch of Barracks with reactors (except one to get combat shields and stimpacks), made a ton of Marines and rushed one of our opponents.

We're in the silver league, I don't know how well that would work in other leagues, and I don't know if that was just luck for us.

On a side note, the opponents were favored and we got a nice amount of points from that win.

Another game (2v2), I rushed with SCVs, not to really end it there, but rather to disrupt the guy's economy. He called me a noob for rushing with SCVs, but in the meantime while I was kiting his SCVs around and harassing him by attacking some of his builders and buildings, my partner made Zealots and rushed in there (I was producing more SCVs and starting an army of my own at this point still), practically ended him there. The other opponent went in to save him while I went to his base and started destroying stuff while he was busy trying to save his partner. Eventually, trying to avoid specifics, all of our headquarters were destroyed and everything was revealed on the map and my partner and I were just trying to push out as many units as we could with our remaining resources and we luckily destroyed all their buildings faster than they could ours.

2 vs 2 on shakuras plateau. zerg and terran force tries to attack my ally, a terran with several siege tanks and marines/marauders. I come up behind them with my force of zealots/sentries/many stalkers, trapping them between siege tank fire and the toss army. That pretty much guaranteed victory.

2 v 2 on the map with shared bases.

My partner is zerg and I am protoss up against two other zerg. One goes roaches the other zerglings-> mutas. Well, after we fended off an attack by roaches my partner drops and I go for an all or nothing attack against them. My force was a group of zealots, a sentry and dark templars that I just were making.

Most of my ally's army was destroyed (I don't know how to play zerg :( ) but not before the roach zerg's hive and most of his drones were destroyed and the other zerg's hatch was wounded. I used the surviving zealots and unharmed dark templars (they had no detection >:) ha ha). Eventually his mutalisks killed the zealots but were utterly helpless against the dark templars so he and his roach ally attacked our two bases.

The roach guy used a nydus on my dropped zerg ally and basically won while I pumped out some more dark templars to go to their base and then some stalkers to defend against mutas at my base with some void rays.

My ally is killed and they are coming for me next, but I've killed all of their hatches and most drones. I kill the ones making hatches and I easily win by destroying their last buildings while they are still not even through my main base.

Nice win for me since I essentially was 1v2 and had no clue how to play a zerg but won because they had no detection.

I was very sneaky on this one :P

as a Terran i built up a bunch of marines, tanks, and ground units, and some ships, i also build up 1 ghost and a nuclear missile ;)

I used my comm satellite to see if he had any overlord that could detect my ghost... i jumped him into a medvec flew alllll the way to the back of his base so he could see my medvec and dropped the ghost into his base CLOAK and Nuclear missile into his buildings while i was doing that he went to attack me and recieved him with my full defense force... i build up another missile while the defense and the battle took place BANG! second missile..

we killed each others massive army, but when he jumped into his base.. all his base was almost destroyed by 2 nukes XD..

he didnt know how did that happend... but it was a GG :D

Not a very epic win, but I did something clever I think. PvT the terran had pushed his M&M to my base and I was microing my stalkers around to sacrifice as few as possible waiting for my first colossus to roll out. The colossus comes out and pushed back the M&M rush. I warp in a few more stalkers and give chase following him back to his main and stopping the push there. I notice while at his main that he has a couple of sensor towers up. (I can see the red rings, which I think it a bit odd. Are you supposed to be able to see them?)

At this point my second colossus is coming across the map with more stalkers and I get ready to push in I stop and have a thought. I grab all the probes from my main, the resources are about to die off anyway, and run them around the back of the map and approach his base from the rear running them inside of the red ring from his sensor tower. I then suicide my observer into his base past the missile turrets and sure enough he was moving all his units and the siege tanks he had just finished building to the back of the base towards the probes that he thought would be a colossus and some blinking stalkers. I wait a couple seconds then charge my force in through the front walking up the cliff and blinking in right behind the siege tanks. GG

That is indeed Clever, although you may have even been able to pull the probes back and dance around in fog of war a bit to confuse and scare him. Still, way to use a Terran strength against him.

TvZ on scrap station.

got the usual bling zling mix -> mutas, started pumping out 3/3 shield stim marines as hard as I could. Mutas ate my original base I had expoed to my natural and the high yield down low, ultras showed up (dun dun dun!)

I got GGed by my opponent at about hte 15 minute mark, then I ended up winning at the 25 minute mark as my gigantic marine/medivac ball shredded EVERYTHING in their way. It was pretty damn impressive to see just the huge wave of marines killing everything and its sister as it tried to come and attack. was surprised how fast ultras went down to marines, plus I killed most of them in one of my bases which had a PF supporting it and was filtering the ultras so that only 1 at a time could get to my marine ball.

Was definitely a fun win.

Most clever had to be TvP
It was on the sand based 2v2 map I was in the lower starting position, toss pulled out all the harass stops : proxy gates - (killed hte first 2 pylons with my scv's - had a chance to wall off and spam units to hold it off) then a colossus shows up just as I put out two vikings - mow it down and stalkers blink into my base . Had a siege tank finish just around then - setup in siege mode and ripped them apart with the marines I had from before. Medivacced my Siege tank and 4 marines over to the ledge just next to his base - could get LoS on his nexus from range - managed to stave off a colossi and a half dozen stalkers by reinforcing my little guerrilla army and despite being SEVERLY low on minerals and having lost a TON of scv's was told GG and he left once his 2nd colossus went down

:)

I was playing as Terran, my Ally Protoss. We were up against 2 Terrans who massed Hellions and Marines. I was teching, and my ally had a few zealots and was going for Colossus. I had about six marines out in the middle of the map, when i saw the mass of Hellions/marines making their way to me. I had just pumped out a ghost, had cloak and nuke ready to go. I set the nuke on my own choke point and just the mass game up to my supply depot wall the nuke came down and took all his units save one marine. My ghost promptly finished him off and proceeded to his base with 48 kills under his belt. I usually build 2 Ghost academies so I can keep a steady flow of nukes so by the time I got to their base had the second nuke raining down on them. Another 26 kills on SCV's before my Ally moved in and killed the one Terran. Second guy threw up some turrets for detection and more hellions but I came strolling in with a dozen or so tanks and support from the Protoss Colossus and wiped the floor with him. They probably could have taken the win if it werent for a single well placed nuke.

i hit continue and go look at his base. like 4 marines and 30 SCVs and a walled off front entrance. +2 (eng bay)armor. i was about to blindside him with the perfect counter to what he had expected. what every normal player would have done. the frontside early rush. but no. I was coming in for the econ kill with the underused and underloved reapers. he saw me coming and said the hell with it. he quit before the reapers even got halfway.

2v2 Random. Lost my partner to a DC at about the 5 or less min mark. I had between a dozen and 20 marines and some marauders my ally had no attack units. Take control of his econ throw down a roach warren and prepare for the worst, fully expecting a loss.

Obviously the 2 opponents come for me but by that time I have 6 or so roaches ready to go, start sending them over and they hit the guys rear just as they attack my front, splitting up the 2 guys. (1 attacking my front, 1 trying to fight off the roaches) Repel the attack and go on the offensive. Seeing my partner drop they both go for weak expos. I roll through one of them but slowly lose my forces to reinforcements.

Having been queuing up more units as I was attacking I had another nice little group of Roaches/Marine/Marauders ready to go. Roll through one guys base and only then does he realize that I can control both bases. He comments that he was slacking off expecting an easy win after I lost my partner. Finish off the other guy with a few more of my reinforcements. Done and done. Just goes to show you, always fight the good fight! lol

One little note though. Against my combo of units what were they supposed to do. My guys were just rolling through stuff. All the zerg opponent rolled out were more roaches, and that turned out to be fodder. The toss opponent tried Stalker/Sentry/Immortal Im sure to try and counter the roaches. Thing is I would all focus fire the sentries then put my marines on destroying the immortals and everything else on just mowing through his other units.

I scouted for Proxy Pylons in my base in a PvP mirror, somehow I missed a probe passing by my empty choke RIGHT as I left an area I was scouting with a Zealot.

Anyways turns out he wasn't trying to Proxy Pylon, but instead was Photon Canon rushing me.

Now it turns out early on, I had placed a Pylon near his base and had already researched Warp Gates with 2 Gates up near my choke. So, what I did was I immediately abandoned my main base and built a Nexus at my natural expansion, saving most of my Probes in the process. I then warped in enough Zealots to harass him at his base. This forces him to give up on continuing the Photon Canon building and instead build forces to defend against my counter.

Anyways, at this point I've got my natural expansion which is now my main up and running and have built another Warp Gate. I use my superior numbers and micro, plus my combination of Stalkers and Zealots to take out his main base.

Once I wipe him out I realize he's not revealed. So my first guess was maybe he's rebuilt on top of my original Nexus. Turns out he hadn't. So then I check out the expansion spots with groups of Zealots and find out he's now got 3 Gateways up at a base on a high yield mineral node.

At this point I warp in more units, get an Immortal up and go for a final assault on his new base, and win.

I was beating myself up over letting myself get Photon Canon rushed, but I'm glad I didn't rage quit and managed to pull through for the win.
