View Full Version : Your SCII MVP?

So I was wondering if everyone has a Most Valuable Player unit for each race.

This doesn't have to be what you think is best; just the unit that has served you the most admirably, won you the most matches; the unit for your preferred race (or all three) that you feel contributes more than any other to your success!

And let's not count the obvious essentials; Workers, Overlords, etc.

As a Zerg player, I think my MVP would have to be the Hydralisks. Great for base point defense, defending my overlords, discouraging raids, and complementing my heavy hitters like Ultralisks and Brood Lords on offense.

I was torn between Roaches or Mutalisks, but i'm gonna have to say Mutalisks.

As a Zerg player, I think my MVP would have to be the Queen. The ability to not need a second hatchery so early and never have a stock of resources due to plenty of larvae has helped me adapt to so many surprise enemy attacks.

Queens are pretty much standard in every zerg game now, so they're pretty much in the same league as drones and overlords. You should pick another one.

True. I suppose I didn't count them due to newness.

In that case...for strictly units, I'd have to say the hydralisk. Their versatility's saved me so many times.Roaches are a close second, but my games usually don't last long enough to use them in their mobile-burrowing capacity.

For me, Collosi. Not always as useful as they are expensive, but when you do get to use them... well, they annihilate. Plus they are like giant mechanical spiders that shoot long range lasers.

It was Void Ray at the start of the beta for me, but it's probably the Sentry now, just because of how versatile it is and how fun it can be to micro to turn the tide of battle.

I agree! In my opinion, you can tell the difference between a good player and a great player by their strategic sentry use

lol

I don't like the sentries, but I force myself to use them because they are so good.

This is split based on match-up.

Toss - Banshee. Counters Immortals like it's their job, and can be rushed to a mineral line and can't be touched by zealots / kills Stalkers dead, and doesn't take 200 gas like ghosts (though Ghosts are a close second).

Zerg - Marine. Marauders may exterminate roaches, and 3-4 Reapers can do some fun things if they early pool you, but Marines just trade all day long for less cost. He's the poster-boy for a reason.

Terran - Viking. Everyone likes Sieging up/counter with Thors, but the BC sticks the fork in many a terran player, and the viking is what you build while teching up/protecting it - plus, a few transforming Viks can man-handle a mineral line.

Marines! No Terran army should leave home without them.

Hellion.
Aesthetically, ugly as !%%* in every way. The sound it makes, the portrait, the unit model...
But TvZ was the matchup I "figured out" way sooner than the rest thanks to it's awesome AoE power.

Marines, for sure, for terran. I play a heavy metal style, im not an M&M player and I barely ever touch marauders tbh, preferring to reactor my first racks, but that metal wont last a second without my boys in blue (or red) taking hits in front of them, armor and hp upgrades, and lots of metal behind them to deal pain..

unless theres a freaking collosus!

I love the stalker and blink, but sentries are definitely better at just about everything these days (lol massing sentries vs. mutas).

MARINES.

'tis true.

It would have to be the viking. I use this unit in 90% of my games in almost every matchup. Although reapers have won me some close ones, the viking still takes the cake because of how versatile it is.

Easily the DT.

Tech to DT with 3 warps, and side tech a robotics.

Proxy pylon on the cliff below opponents base (do not scout them, and it's likely they wont expect the pylon).

Observer spots.

DT tower thingy gets done, warp in 3 DTs up the cliff, destroy main base gg.

Enemies counter, chrono all three gates and warp in 2 DTs to defend the counter.

Lose a nexus to two warp rays (still working this part out hehe).

I have beaten some players that are VERY good at this game doing this, mostly a 2s strat far as i can tell.

Someone please clue me in to the why the sentry is good? Maybe I suck with them...

Immortals are my favorite.

Mutalisks. Fast, decent damage to ground and air, and built for resource harassment.

Raven. Never lost a game where I've gotten seeker missile.

But since seeker missile is all the way at fusion core, it's between Raven and Marines.

Also, a suggestion: I think it would be cool if, at the end screen, there was a "Unit MVP" award for each player that showed which of his units had the most kills. (I think by this criteria my Planetary Fortress with 60+ kills would be tough to beat.)

Immortals are my favorite.

Forcefield has a long range and is an amazing way to stop your Z's from getting kited pre-charge. It can also block off your entire ramp with 1 cast making it an invaluable stall tactic as well as a great way to either split up attacking forces or trap retreating units to be slaughtered.

I'm blanking on the name of the ability that reduces incoming ranged damage, but that one ability > MMM and Mutes, to name a couple common uses.

Zerglings. 2 for 1 deal. Good for hit and run, fun to have in massive numbers, and after you upgrade speed, are probibly the fastest unit in the game. They are also adorable.

Void rays. I like stalker+sentry combo, but void rays are too useful. A game was utterly out playing me on the ground, but 6 void rays ruined his production (a pylon goes down fast) and there wasn't much he could do against him with his build.

Dark Templars, God i love those invisible heavy hitters

For me it has to be Marines. With a few upgrades Marines are the units that keep on giving.

I have to second this. Hydralisks are amazing now, and the other units are all useful in their way, but I never ever leave home without a screen of zerglings.

Those sentries are the bane of my Terran existence. Every time my opponent is using them they just divide all my forces and annihilate me.

sentry would have to the most over powered unit in the game, the shield it generates and the ability to create choke points on command can take any decent protoss army with good micro into an unstoppable force. They are amazing for the start of the game just due to their ability to help against MM and roach rush.

TBH i dont think theres a more talent required unit in the game.

A toss player that doesnt use sentries is a toss player that probly loses more often then not.

DT's, for sure. One of my favorite strategies is to attack my opponent with a big force, and while he's busy fighting me (I usually make my force retreat so it's easier to micro/they don't get wiped out while I'm not paying attention), I have some DT's stroll into a base and start annihilating SCVs. Before an opponent even has time to react I can kill so many of his workers, and I don't think anything's more fun than going up against a guy who didn't bother to invest in some stealth detection : D.

They're also surprisingly good if you have a couple of them as part of your main army, just because people usually don't think to use scan during a big fight. I've had DTs go around killing all of an enemy's high templars or ghosts while he's just focusing on my main force. You just have to watch out for splash damage, or else they die incidentally very fast.

Medvac for sure.

With MM w/ stimpak you have a cracked out army that gets its health restored. Pretty awesome.

Also in 2s, Terran and Zerg team. Terran builds a bunch of medvacs, zerg has hydralisks. Its a good combo.

Zerg- I hate to admit it but the Roach wins most of my Zerg games....... prolly cause they need to get hit with a nerf bat......... ALOT

Protoss- Definately the Dark Templar

My beloved Queen of the Zerg :)

If i'm paying attention i can sit there and watch my entire army die only to have 40 larva ready for a batch of 80 zerglings(or something else) to finish off the few units he had after the battle and make the final push. If not for it I'd lose a lot more than i win.

Though many people have said this unit sucks, I really do love the corruptor. I get like 10 mutas and 6 corruptors, run into his base, Corrupt any buildings making anything, and start owning his worker line. Corruptors have also done such a beautiful job for me against any air unit I bring it with.
